Penny Watchers Needed For War Savings Plan

Congregational and Sunday School Picnic Draws 200 Plus Attendees

The Orono Community Park event hosted by Park St United Church drew over 200 participants for a day of games races and contests. Rev S Littlewood and Mr M H Staples led activities while Mrs A A Drummond chaired as mistress of ceremonies. Winners in classes included June Glanville Hope Thompson Charles Armstrong and Ray West with various relay and stunt events.

Obscure Orono figure Joseph Robinson Passes After Long Life

Joseph Robinson known as Our Joe died Sunday at age 83 after a short illness. Born August 28, 1859 in Cobourg he came to Orono as a boy and worked for Dr. Renwick and later delivered mail for Mrs. Dunsford and the C N R route. He remained a dedicated worker carrying mail to homes and serving as Toronto Star Weekly agent in all weather. Funeral held at Park Street United Church with Rev. Littlewood officiating. interment in Orono Cemetery.

The Provincial Salvage supervisor congratulates local Scouts for their work. The eighth report shows 61 380 pounds collected with earnings of 318 02 dollars and expenses of 9 50 dollars.

Kendal L O L held a Saturday evening meeting in their lodge room. The fife and drum band paraded down and up Main Street with lodge members. J J Mellor spoke on the war situation and civic duties, followed by ice cream served after closing.

Hepburn to Speak at Durham Farmers Picnic in Orono Park

Hon. Mitchell F. Hepburn will address a large crowd at the Durham County Federation of Agriculture picnic in Orono Community Park on Friday July 17. A 12:30 p.m. lunch precedes Hepburns 2:00 p.m. talk with sports and a North versus South Durham softball game. rain plan moves to the agricultural building.
