Orono Grads Honor Students At Evening Exercises
The Orono Public School held its first graduation and achievement night to honor sixteen graduates moving to high school. Medals and bars for academic, music, sport, and citizenship were awarded, with teacher sponsors announcing top scholars and presenting four new high school letters. The event featured remarks by Principal H Lowes and introductions for new Orono High School principal Mr Witherspoon.

Orono Intermediates Defeat Cobourg Juniors In Nine Innings
Orono Intermediates beat Cobourg Juniors 5 to 4 in Orono Tuesday night. Winning pitcher Keith West struck out ten, allowing seven hits over nine innings. Ronnie West led Orono at the plate with a double and two singles, while Dean West and Tim Cox added two hits each.

Swim classes start today in Bowmanville park pool
The Red Cross swimming program begins with Mary Ann Armstrong as instructor and Marilyn Cobbledick as assistant teaching water safety and strokes. The Orono Junior Girls Softball team lost 14 to 11 to Bowmanville on Tuesday. Orono led early before Bowmanville seized the lead in the sixth with a four run burst. Tied 10 10 midway through the inning. Faye Nicholson pitched for Orono with Pegsy Hancock behind the plate. Christine Maartense led Orono at the plate with a hit in every at bat.
