Orphans Television Draw Postponed At Bowmanville Arena

Bowmanville arena hosts a rough hockey night as the Barons defeat the Orphans 10 to 7 after a penalty filled first period. Crono led a 4 to 8 second frame revival for Crone with Armstrong scoring five for the Barons.

Orono Orphans Beat Port Hope 7 5 On Tuesday Night

In Port Hope on Tuesday evening the Orphans earned their third win of the season defeating Port Hope 7 to 5. The contest featured few penalties, with one for the locals and three for Port Hope, and contrasted sharply with their Bowmanville showing.

New Owner Takes Over Dean's Bakery

A long established local bakery changes hands as of February 2. Dean's Bakery, owned by Hesper Dean for twenty one years, will be sold to Andrew McGill of Toronto. Dean plans to stay until spring to help the transition and McGill is a professional baker welcomed by the community.

Orono Bank Expansion Underway at Orono Branch

A new addition to the Orono Branch of the Canadian Bank of Commerce began last week with east side excavation. The buildout includes a larger security vault and reallocated washroom space turning part of the old area into a customer booth.

Membership Doubles In First Month In New Location

Orono Library reports membership doubled to sixty since moving in December and usage increased. New policies include a five cent per week overdue fee after two weeks to boost revenue and keep holdings circulating. Window display restricted to library items. twelve new books added, plus fifty donated by Dr. A F McKenzie. thanks planned to local groups. Opening second weekly day discussed. Tuesday favored but postponed.

Staples Guest Speaker At Women's Institute Meeting

The January Wo men s Institute meeting chaired by Mrs. F Ferguson featured guest speaker M H Staples who discussed a trip through the United States arranged by the United Cooperative. Members agreed to contribute 50 cents each to cover activities. A nominating committee was named and a social lunch followed.

Orono Band Card Party Raises 37 Dollars in Crokinole Fun

The Orono Band held a Friday card party and crokinole event generating 37 dollars. Prizes were donated by Charles Tyrrell and C Alldread with winners including Mrs. Fred Bowen and Mrs. Helen Schmidt. Attendance invited for the Orange Lodge event tomorrow night.

Orange Card Party Opens With Enthusiasm and Prizes

The L.O.S. held its first 500 party January 9 with strong turnout and keen competition but no record scores. Future dates are January 23 February 6 and February 20. The Worthy Master won a door prize chiffon cake donated by Mrs. Wm Tomlinson, later handed to Mrs. Wm EH Davey. First night prize winners were Mrs. Geo Morton Carlos Tamblyn Wm Tamlinson and Mrs BE Hancock. The group starts at 8 pm, plays to 10 30 then lunch and extra play if desired. Friday lunch will be unusual.

St Saviours Anglican Church Orone held its annual Vestry meeting on January 14 with strong turnout despite icy roads. Officer elections selected Frank Hall as Rector's Warden and Geo Morton as People's Warden, with Morton named Lay Delegate to Synod.
