W A annual meeting notes 1960 officers installed

The Women’s Auxiliary meeting was held January 14 in the Sunday School room with Mrs H Allen presiding. Rev Mr Leng installed the 1960 officers. Reports showed a busy year with $1495.74 raised and gifts sent to the sick and bereaved. The group planned a turkey dinner for late January and the meeting ended with the W A benediction.

Athletic to Stage Annual Play and Boost Recreation Efforts

The Amateur Athletic Association met at the Municipal Building to align with the new Recreation Commission. It plans funding through the commission, with a grant possible for maintenance and instruction. The group approved two new hockey sweater sets and noted four sponsored teams.

Orono Chamber Seeks Public Suggestions for New Year

The Orono Chamber of Commerce asks residents to send ideas for projects to expand area progress. President H Duvall urges letters or notes to secretary Leslie Aslett in Orono Ontario so proposals can be discussed and possibly acted upon.

Durham Central Agricultural Society Plans Grandstand Extension

The Orono society held its annual meeting in the Township Hall with many members present. Secretary J C Gamey outlined finances showing a $504.83 balance and members discussed removing old stables as a fire hazard and setting September 9 and 10 for the fair. Suggestions included raising prize money and expanding classes for heavy and light horse and Beef Cattle, with input from M H Staples, Wm Reid, and George Carson. Carlos Tamblyn urged a larger Holstein show at the fair.

PeeWees Triumph Over Bowmanville In Hockey Scrimmage

The Orceno PeeWees defeated the Canadiens of Bowmanville 3 to 1 despite several regular players being sidelined by illness and three Bantam players used sparingly. Dane Rogerson opened the scoring. Doug Moffat added three goals with two assists from Fraser Wallace. Meadows, Carleton, and Reid officiated.

Orono Orphans Rally To Tie Port Hope Clash At Home

The Orono Orphans played at their Orono rink before a light crowd and tied Port Hope Intermediate 5 5 as Raye West scored the equalizer with 19 12 left, assisted by Robbie Robinson who had a hand in all five Orono goals. Gary Cooper added two goals with assists from Robinson and Keith West.

The Orono Mission Band met Wednesday afternoon January 20 with many members present. Mrs A A Drummond led singing and Sharon Allen directed Mission Band Purpose. John Duvall and Michael Carman collected offerings.

Port Hope Edges Orono Orphans 5 4 in Hockey Thriller

Port Hope Ontarios and Orono Orphans battled at Peter Campbell Arena before 150 fans. Port Hope, despite a 4-0 deficit, rallied to win 5-4 with goals from Weiss Wakely Cancilla and McKeen, while Rob inson led the Orphans with two goals. Goalkeeping by Haskill and Vanstone yielded key saves as Port Hope edged ahead 15:52 into the final period.

Orono explores wells for village water supply plan

Orono Police Trustees met with Ontario Water Resources Commission officials and engineers to review a Wells survey and strata study. They identified two feasible drilling areas, starting with three test holes south of Princess Street and Cobbledick Street, then potentially four north of Gordon Watson's house.
