Orono Chamber of Commerce holds annual meeting
The Orono Chamber of Commerce met Thursday at the Orono Restaurant with 27 members present. President Don Staples highlighted past promotions, announced merit presentations, and outlined goals for a larger 1860. Treasurer Gordon Watson reported a bank balance of 109,441 dollars and officers for the coming year were named, including H. Duvall as president and S. B. Rutherford as vice president.

Orono Orphans Triumph In Season Opener Over Durno
The Orono Orphans opened the hockey season with a 9 to 5 win against Durno’s of Oshawa at the Orono rink. Dean West scored four goals, with Chas Armstrong Eric Carleton, Gary Cooper and others contributing. The crowd was small due to weather and road conditions. The next home game is Tuesday January 19 at 8 45 p m. The team wore new sweaters donated by Coca Cola of Oshawa and received sticks from Scugog Cleaners.
