More than two hundred players from fourteen teams competed at the Orono rink in the Eastern Little NHL Tournament. Orono won the Junior A title 7-1 over Warsaw and 4-0 over Cannington, while Cannington took the AHL crown with 11-0 over Orono and 7-2 over Little Britain in the NHL final.

The Orono Red Cross Society plans a March 5 blitz in the Village of Orono and Clarke Township to fund year long projects. Funds support water safety at Orono Park, vitamin capsules for public school children, a wheel chair program, a workroom for surgical bandages, blood donor clinics in Bowmanville, and welfare assistance as needed.

The Orone Figure Skating Club presents an ice show this Saturday evening February 24 at the Orone rink. The 4:00 start features about sixty skaters in solos twosomes and groups with colorful costumes. Miss Gail Cooper coaches this year and after the performance the public is invited to skate.

About twenty children enrolled for Grade One to start September 1962 at Orono Public School, an average year’s entry. The graduating class totals nineteen. The Official Board of Orono United Church meets to weigh plans and costs for a dedicated Christian Education Building. Sunday School enrolment rose to 160 this past Sunday and uses space off site for nursery and primary classes. The committee will report back at two future meetings.

Rubinoff Plays In Orono United Church
In January and February 1962 Oshawa and surrounding areas hosted skating and winter events at Darlington Bay and the Orono United Church. About 800 to 1,000 skaters on January 28 and 400 to 500 on February 4 and 8. families cooked soup and pancakes in cold winds. Rubinoff performed for Orono students on February 16 with pianist David Burk, impressing juniors and seniors despite initial grumbles.

The Orono High School Glee Club prepares two public outings directed by Mrs. Fletcher. First, this Sunday at Newcastle United Church the group sings two anthems under her baton. In early May they perform a Musical Night in Orono Town Hall with schoolwide participation and dance numbers.
