Fourteen Hockey Teams To Play At Orono Rink This Saturday

Fourteen teams with up to 224 players will compete in the Little NHL Tourney at Orono Rink this Saturday. Three divisions Atoms Pee Wees and Bantams will play through ten to eleven games to crown champions. Centers represented include Orono Millbrook Cannington Warsaw and Little Britain with schedule details and warmup times listed.

Orono Couples Club Toboggan Party and Games Night

The Orono Couples Club held a Toboggan Party and Games Night on Monday February 12. Seventeen couples attended enjoying torreggan rides and games of Ping Pong darts and hockey in the church basement. A short business meeting followed with hot soup and sandwiches and prayer to close.

Death of Rev John Wilkinson former Dunbarton minister

Rev John Walter Wilkinson died at Oshawa General Hospital on February 3 after a short illness. Born in London 1894 he came to Canada as a youth and served 38 years in United Church ministry after its formation. Survived by wife Mabel Irene Couch, three daughters Stella McMillan Ruth Watson Margaret, and son John Wilkinson, with grandchildren and a sister. Funeral at Dunbarton United Church February 6 with Rev Dr W A McKay officiating. Interment Bethesda Cemetery Darlington Township.

High School Dance Sparks Civic Spirit at Oddfellows Hall

February 9 marked another successful high school dance sponsored by the Students' Council. The Oddfellows Hall was decorated with red streamers and a Kissing Tree. Students enjoyed dancing, snowballs, and Paul Jones amid a late evening lunch of fancy sandwiches, pop, and pink and white heart cakes. Open House at Queens University encouraged Orono and Bowmanville students to view university life with guided tours and faculty displays.

Lena Alberta Wood obituary from Orono community

Lena Alberta Wood died at Southaven Rest Home on Saturday February 3 in her 61st year. Born in Orono in 1901, she was a member of Orono United Church and survived by several relatives including Mrs. Wesley Hoskin and Wesley Wood, with Charles Wood preceding her. Funeral held February 6 at Bowermanville Chapel, interment in Orono Cemetery conducted by Rev. B. Long. pallbearers named.

Mrs. Winnifred Fieldsing Jewell Dies at 86 in Bowmanville

Mrs. Winnifred Mary Fielding Jewell died February 9 at Niagara Peninsula Sanatorium after a long illness. She was 86, born in Clarke Township, married in Bowmanville in 1902, and survived by two daughters Edna McLeod and Marion Jackson, a son Harold Jewell, two sisters, and was active in St. Pauls United Church. Funeral by Morris Funeral Home Bowmanville with pallbearers listed.

Bowmanville Drama Workshop Plans School Play and Two Local Productions

A Bowmanville Drama Workshop meeting at the Sheridan residence cast schedules for two forthcoming productions. The Bowmanville High School show The Man in the Bowler Hat will be directed by Robert Sheridan with casting including Schoenmaker unavailable and mid April tentative dates. The Invisible Worm will be staged by Mrs. Bethune, Mr. Dennis, and Mr. Murkely, directed by Mrs. Wonnacott. A Tiny Closet by William Inge features Mrs. Sheridan, Miss Nelles, and Mr. Stenger with direction by Mrs. Frenchman. A Lions Club meeting on February 16 1962 at 8 p.m. will finalize stage crews and designers.

Rangers To Hold Story Hour For Kiddies

Rangers invite children aged six to eight to a Story Hour on Saturdays in the Municipal Building from 10 30 to 11 30 a m starting March 3 The Orono Rangers offer stories as a public service to foster reading and book enjoyment in the community.

Orono Ice Carnival Draws 300 Crowd at Rink

The Orono Ice Skating Carnival drew over 300 attendees last Friday with public skating, a costume parade, broomball, and a 6 4 hockey win by the Orono Smoke-Eaters over the Curply Splinters. Prizes honored costumes and skaters of all ages.

The Ganaraska River Conservation Authority expanded at a Port Hope meeting on February 4 to include all Clarke Township except two small Central Lake Ontario parcels. Clarke Hope and Port Hope now share costs, with past payments of 1400 dollars by each area. future planning targets Clarke with new land additions and park work.

Clarke Township considers wage hikes and fire protection plans

Clarke Township Council met in February to approve wage schedules for road staff and appoints welfare positions. A bridge construction agreement with Rugger and Re land was approved. Fire protection talks include Bowmanville and Orono Police Trustees guidance and a water system agreement with Ontario Water Resources Commission.
