Orono Chamber Hears Pass Issue and Car Licenses Talk

The Orono Chamber of Commerce met at the Rum Rite Inn with President O. W. Rolph An and discussed the railway passes controversy. Members urged limiting passes, pushing for car licenses in Orono, and planned July 12 celebrations with Lodge support.

Valentine Party By W C T U at Park Street United

The Valentine party by the W C T U in Park Street United Church basement drew about fifty attendees. The decor featured valentines and red tulips as crokinole games filled the evening with a short programme of piano duets and vocal numbers followed by speeches. Winners in crokinole were Mrs Hancock, Mrs Wood, Mr M Sherwin, and Mrs M Harrison with scores listed. Lunch was served after the games.

Orono Midgets Triumph 2 1 in Oshawa Return Match

Orono Midgets defeated the Oshawa Simicoe Street United Church team 2 to 1 in Oshawa. Dick Patterson and Don Staples scored for Orono, with eleven players from Oshawa unnamed. Postgame, players were hosted at Regent Theatre with hamburgers and milk shakes. coaches Frank Pearson and Ralph Widdis traveled with the squad, and the team eyes Port Perry next Saturday.

Orono Defeats Newcastle 7 to 2 in Hockey Battle

Orono hockey team O C I S defeated Newcastle 7 to 2 on Tuesday February 15 in a fast clean game. Key plays saw Case and Major score early with Myles adding two goals and Goode and R Patterson contributing as the defense held Newcastle at bay. Final score 7 to 2 with O C I S set to face Millbrook next at Orono.

Orono Police Trustees Meet in Regular Session

The Vil lage of Orono Police Trustee Board held its regular meeting at the fire hall with J H Gibson H M Mercer and W J Riddell present. Minutes were approved and bills totaling 35 49 were ordered paid. The board advertised for light industry in Daily Press for three consecutive insertions and adjourned until March.

Town rumors swirl about Tom Cowan painting his Morida house on Sundays. He reportedly signed a petition allowing Sunday shuffleboard in town while Charley Miller and Mrs. Cowan deny the painting tale and Charley Awde admits a Toronto horse race visit without betting.

Snowplows Inadequate To Clear County Roads

A letter from Mr. A. S. Miller, County Engineer, dated January 28, states snow clearing equipment is unsatisfactory and that the Counties' Council ordered it off county roads for the rest of winter. Only pavements plowed previously by the Department of Highways will be kept passable. Roads listed include Trenton to Wooler and Newcastle to Orono.
