Citizens of the Village and district backed the Orono Amateur Athletic Benefit Banquet with all tickets sold. Two hundred tickets were bought for the event at the Orono Oddfellow's Community Hall. Harold Cobbledick won the one hundred dollar prize in the elimination draw, with Vernon Graham and Roy Forrester close contenders. The Bowmanville High School quartet Four Bows performed to an ovation, showcasing solid vocal and musical talent.

Santa to Visit Orono Saturday for Children Event

Darlington Township held its second nomination meeting to fill the council seat and Public School Board vacancy. Kendal Hosts Presentation For Mr and Mrs Tebble in Orono
Kendal friends of Mr and Mrs Cecil Tebble gathered in the Sunday School room on December 5 to wish them happiness in their new home in Orono. Miss C W Stewart read the address while Roy Mercer and Hatcher Foster presented a floor lamp and coffee table as gifts. Christmas carols were sung and a programme followed. Icy roads caused some to turn back but a social time with refreshments concluded the evening.

Serpent Mounds to Become Public Park at Rice Lake
The Serpent Mounds site near Keene on Rice Lake will open for public use with roads, trees, picnic sites, grills, and trailer campsites. In 12,000 visits last year the Hopewellian excavations drew researchers and tourists. archaeologists from the Royal Ontario Museum led tours under J. W. Sullivan. Excavations will continue next year with larger visitor groups, as officials urge care for young trees and proper trash disposal.

Twenty five Winners Listed All Receive Christmas Turkeys
Twenty five Christmas Turkeys are to be distributed across the district after a lucky draw held in the Village last Saturday night. The Crono Oddfellow's Service Club and the Orono dance sponsored the event at the Orono Oddfellow's Community Centre with about 150 in attendance. Farrow's Orchestra played as the draw selected beneficiaries including Thomas Stephenson and many others from Bowmanville Oshawa Pontypool and Orono. Proceeds from the dance and draw are aimed at Community Welfare and the Community Building Fund, expected to exceed four hundred dollars.
