Children Take Part In White Gift Service At Orono Church
Orono United Church Sunday School held its first White Gift service in years on Sunday evening. Scholars deposited White Gift parcels on two covered tables before taking seats. The service featured hymns readings and an Anthem by the choir and senior girls. Total White Gift envelopes raised 105 dollars for the United Church Relief Fund Hungary donations exceed 30 000.

A rabbit hunting accident near Newcastle left Jerry Barchard 13 with a chest wound from a .22 rifle. He walked home for first aid then was treated at Bowmanville Memorial Hospital and released the next morning. Constable Francis Dryden said the wound likely came from a ricocheting rabbit hunter’s rifle.

Fire damages local home causing heavy interior heat
On Monday evening fire damaged the home of Mr. Charles Taylor near the village. The blaze began in the back wall and spread inside where smoke and heat hindered firefighters. Firemen found the heat blistering wallpaper and paint while water from the exterior saved the front of the house. Russell Rogerson alerted neighbors before the 8pm call.
