Candle Light Service by C G LT Group in Orono Church

The C G LT group held its annual Christmas candle lighting service at the Orono United Church with about sixty girls in white middies and blue skirts. Shirley Wage led, Doreen Aldread gave the Christmas story, Joan Vage read the Scripture, and Carol Yeo offered a prayer. Joan Aldread Margery Tyrrell and Marilyn Major lit three candles to close the service.

Hon Goodfellow Speaks At Durham Federation Pot Luck

The Honorable W. Goodfellow Ontario Agriculture Minister addressed the Durham County Federation of Agriculture annual meeting in Newcastle on November 30. He urged unity for stronger marketing legislation and farm product quality, with focus on smaller holdings amid a trend to larger farms.

Santa to Greet Children at Orono Hall December 22

Santa Claus visits Orono Township Hall Saturday afternoon after 2 30. The event features children's films, singing, and a candy and fruit goodie bag for every child, sponsored by the Heather Rebekah Social Club with help from the Orono Businessmen.

Clarke Teachers banquet at Shiloh United Church on November 20 featured a supper by Shiloh W A served to attendees. A display of coins and dolls from Europe and North America accompanied reports on travel and a slide show.

Grono Cubs Start Toy Repair Project This Week

Three cartons of toys were donated to the Orono Wolf Cub Pack at their Monday meeting. The cubs will clean, refinish, and paint the items starting Monday, then donate repaired toys to the Children's Aid Society in Port Hope for distribution to children under care.

Local Groups Sell Christmas Trees in Orono

Orono Boy Scouts Girl Guides and G first organizations will sell trees this year. Trees are donated by Messrs Wm and John Armstrong who provide them free of charge. Trees will be available Monday at the Hydro office Orono Municipal Building delivery available via the office. Proceeds fund village activities.

Orange Lodge Card Party At Orono Hall

Orange Lodge No. 409 of Orono held a card party in the I O O F Hall on Monday evening. Eight tables played Five Hundred with prizes awarded to Mr. C. Malley and others. Mrs. George Morton won the door prize and Mrs Underwood and Mrs Bowen took consolation prizes. A full evening of cards concluded with lunch served.

Evening Auxiliary Holds November Meeting at Orono United Church

The Orono Evening Auxiliary met Thursday in the Sunday School Auditorium with sixty attendees. Olive Milison led with a welcome and hymn O come all ye faithful followed by prayer for Hungarian refugees. A nominating committee of Mary Rutherford Joe Barlow and Marjorie Russell was formed to select officers for the next year.

The Western church women held a December 4 gathering decorated with greenery and candles. Miss Stella Penfound read the Christmas Story, Hymn 58 was sung, and a candle lighting service honored eight regions. Reports, officer slate, and future meeting dates were announced.

Guides, Brownies, mothers and members of the local Association attended Tuesday’s meeting to witness badge awards for seven Guides. Marlene Graham earned First Class Guide status. Ten Brownies were enrolled.

Orono Fish and Hunt Club Holds Annual Meeting and Fox Hunt

The Orono Fish and Hunt Club elected Gordon Simpson as president and Gerald Duvall as treasurer at their annual meeting in the Orono Municipal Building. A fox hunt is planned for Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with assembly at Watson's Garage. Duvall retires as president, and secretary and treasurer posts are now separate. The club may contest Outdoor Girl of Canada prizes in Toronto with entries funded by the National Show.
