Morley Robinson Tops Vote For School Board

Morley Robinson led the Clarke Township school board race with 442 votes, ahead of Lawrence Greenwood 422 and William Wannan 366. E Dent and Paul McMackin were defeated, while Greenwood led No 9 and Kendal polls, and turnout was about 25 percent from 2250 eligible voters. A Cobourg park funding protest moves to United Counties Council with a Bowmanville vote to oppose a $52,000 park project.

Kendal Banquet Honors Ball Players

A Kendal banquet celebrated the Pee Wee and Junior B baseball teams with a trophy presentation to captain Bill Robinson. C. Carveth and Cecil Carveth presented honors as families and officials watched, with jackets and badges for each player and thanks to supporters in Kendal.

Snow Fall Could Lower Village Water System Costs

The snow cover in Orono may save taxpayers money by reducing direct costs of a municipal water system. A winter installation could ease frost penetration, enabling easier setup and potentially securing winterworks grants in the thousands. Tenders may be called this month for the water main, storage tank, and pumping equipment.

Orono Public School Awards Highlight 1963 64 Honors

Orono Public School awarded attendance, academic, sports, music, oratory, and spelling bars on Friday December 4. Crest honors went to students with sustained grade four through eight points. Kiwanis and Clarke Township events boosted school standings with the Glee Club first at Peterborough and field day points leading the school.

Interesting Floral Displays At Horticultural Xmas Meeting

The Orono Horticultural Society held a Christmas meeting on Wednesday November 25 in the 1.C.C.F. Hall. Attendance was lower due to a stormy night. President Carl Billings opened the gathering as members sang O Canada. Judge Mrs. T. Fairbrother announced judging results for seven classes of arrangements and door decors. Speaker Harry Van of Van Belle Gardens Bowmanville spoke on care of Christmas plants and planning landscaping for spring. Mrs. Fairbrother displayed and explained the arrangements and prizes were awarded before God Save the Queen and a social hour with lunch.

Orono CGLT Officers Installed for New Term

On November 23 at 7 p.m. eighteen CGLT girls met in the Christian Education Building for the regular meeting in Oshawa. Judy Wagg presided as Honorary President and new officers were installed by Rev. Long. A pre-Christmas National Vesper Service followed on November 29 at First Baptist Church, Oshawa.
