Durham County Dominates Grain and Potato Judging at Guelph

At the Provincial Winter Fair in Guelph Durham County shines in grain and potato judging. The Senior Grain Club team led by George Tufford and Alfred Allin won with 1144 of 1200, while junior teammates placed closely. In potato judging the Ontario County Junior team tops with 915, Durham County placing second with 899.

Park Street United Church Hosts Busy Young People's Meeting

Monday evening's Park Street United Church Young People's programme drew a large crowd. Neil Wood led the programme with Hazel Winter Reed's story and Betty Rowe's scripture. giving a vocal duet by Mr and Mrs Smith with Miss Myrtle Smith, and a piano piece by Jean Logan. Miss Hileen Riddell presented a talk on worship materials and its aims. She described worship as rhythmic life with the law of alteration between heaven and earth guiding devotional meetings toward a clear outcome.

Christmas Tree Event and Local News in Orono

The Orono community plans the annual Christmas Tree and Santa visit on Friday December 28. Local businesses will stay open through Christmas week. A 27 foot boat is being finished at Central Garage for Gordon Watson.

Whitby Badminton Club Visits Orono for Local Tournament

Whitby Badminton Club travelled to Orono for a local tournament last week. Mixed doubles and men’s doubles featured close scores with Whitby tallying 30 points to Orono 25. After play, Orono ladies served coffee cake and sandwiches.

Orono L O L Lodge Confers Blue Degree on Visiting Brethren

Officers and members of Orono L O L No. 409 hosted Cameron Lodge L O L conferring the Blue Degree on Chas Brown County Master of Durham West and his son George of Fenelon Falls and Robt Cornforth of Lindsay. A luncheon followed with speeches on orangeism and democracy and the evening closed with God Save the King.

Meeting in Millbrook on Hydro Electric Purchase

O W Rolph and W J Riddell attended a public meeting in Millbrook on Friday night to discuss the Hydro Electric Utility purchase of the village with a vote set for Saturday. Nat tress of the Hydro Electric Power Commission of Ontario spoke on the village system and Riddell traced the Orono purchase history. The meeting was well attended and enthusiastic.

Variety Minstrels Draw Large Audience at Town Hall

Local notice reports a large crowd attended the Variety Minstrels at the Town Hall on Wednesday night. It mentions community sympathy for the Cowan family, notes on snow fence efforts for winter, upcoming Christmas tree entertainments at Sixth Line and Kendal, and school members and visitors including Miss Gladys Ard and Miss Catherine Stewart. Celebrate Silver Wedding at Cawker Home

On Friday December 2 a pleasant evening was spent at the home of Mr and Mrs T Wesley Cawker Bowmanville for their fiftieth anniversary. The couple were surprised with a Silver Entree Dish. St Saviours A Y P A Praise Play Choice At Orono Show

On Wednesday December 7 a large crowd enjoyed the Whitby A Y P A minstrels and a one act play Advertisinge for a Husband staged under St Saviours Church Orono. Rev Dewdney thanked all participants and a Whitby minister praised the sponsorship. The variety company delivered songs jokes and lively comedy. The cast and chorus impressed with their timing and talent.

Clarke Township Council Meeting Minutes Read

Clarke Township Council met in regular session on Tuesday afternoon and ordered payments for multiple accounts. The list includes Whillier Co adding machine rolls, Orono Weekly Times printing, Deam's Bakery relief bread, and invoices to Drs Wilson and Stanley plus local treasurer and road work charges. Council adjourned to meet again on December 15.
