Orono Officials Discuss Underpass At Joint Meeting

A joint meeting of the Orono Underpass Committee and the Orono Police Trustees drew about ten attendees to review plans for an underpass into the village from Highway 115. Trustees favored current entrance projects but agreed planning is needed before backing an underpass, with Centre Street proposed as the logical site and Marshall Macsin Monaghan to study feasibility.

Orono Main Street traffic study urges widening and parking changes

The Ontario Department of Transport recommends widening Main Street in Orono to 60 feet curb to curb, shifting to parallel parking on the west side and east side north to Main and Mill, allowing 45 degree angle parking on the east side south of Centre, and a two hour parking limit with marked stalls.

Clarke High names top 13 students for year

Clarke High School announced the three top Grade 13 students for the year Jim Wilson Terry Graham and Sharon Tamblyn. Jim Wilson plans to attend Queen s University to major in French Terry Graham will also attend Queen s University for General Arts and Physical Education Peterborough Teachers College will host Sharon Tamblyn this fall.

Final Inspection Of Water Monday Delays in Orone Water System

Uncertain timing for full operation of the Orone Water System after weekend breakdowns. Final disinfection is underway as OWRC officials confirm repairs and try to finalize activation. Mr. Bob Copeland of the OWRC Plant Operation division provides the update.

Orono Midget Team Tops Trenton in Playoff Push

Orono leads the best of five series 2 1 after two wins over Trenton Air Force. Paul Jones pitched six innings in a 4 1 victory with seven strikeouts and two base hits, and Brian Foster threw well behind the plate. In the Monday game Orono won 9 6 as Jones relieved to earn the win with Moffat and Perrault contributing hits. UB A officials will decide if the series continues as Trenton refuses further games.

Propose Artificial Ice For Orono Arena

The Artificial Ice and Community Centre Committee met to decide on installing artificial ice at the Orono arena instead of a new rink. They aim to fit the project into about $30,000 and will seek prices for an ice making machine and possible structural changes. Members John At and Glen Tennant will obtain quotes, with Doug Allin Bob Hazelden and Roy Thompson assessing renovations.

Field Crop Winners Named in Oat Competition

The Durham Central Agricultural Society announced the prize winners in the oat competition. Winners include Wm. Tamblyn and G. Carson of Orono, G. B. Rickard of Bowmanville, Ernest Gilbank of Orono, and others from Kendal Leskard Hampton and Bowmanville. Judge John Cruikshank praised it as one of the best contests he has judged with strong fields.

Meeting on Pump Site to Review Water System Install

A meeting of contractors sub contractors engineers and Water Resources members is set for Monday at 11 00 am at the pump site to review the installation and decide when the system will go into full operation. Local expectations anticipate no delays as the plant operation division provides complete pump and system operation instructions.

Orono Trustees Move On Parking Plan Updates

At a special meeting the Orono Trustees approved actions to enact by laws for Main Street parking including 45 degree angle spaces, two hour limits, and no parking within 30 feet of intersections. They will remove a sidewalk section later and seek county support and a Department of Transport map.
