Orono Softball Girls Win League Championship Again

Orono Junior Girls Softball clinched the league title by beating Newtonville in two straight final games. In the first game at Orono Park the score was 14 to 8 with Ronda Tennant earning the win and Darlene West going 3 for 3 with three runs. The title game in Newtonville ended 12 to 3 as Carol Mercer fanned nine in five innings and Nancy Forrester led the scoring with three runs on three hits including a home run. The team finished the season with only one defeat, to Newcastle, and is coached by Mrs. John Forrester and Mrs. Don Tennant.

Mosport Park Up for Sale by National Trust Co

Mosport Park, the 2.5 mile international motor racing circuit near Orono, is up for sale by its owners the National Trust Company with bids due December 1. The track has faced financial troubles since opening in 1961 and has hosted stars like Stirling Moss Jim Hall John Surtees Bruce McLaren Graham Hill and Ludwig Heimrath.

Many Pass Red Cross Swimming Tests At Orono

Registration for Red Cross Swim Classes in Orono rose to about 350 as July sessions ran daily under Mrs. Shirley Reynolds with helpers. The Tadpoles and Beginners finished July 27 with awards, and the July 30 exam led by Mr. B. V. Parker produced above average results among many passed swimmers including Warren Johnston and Linda De Jonge among others.

Lena Renwick WWI Army nurse dies in Redlands

Lena Renwick a World War I Army Nurse Corps veteran and Redlands resident for 35 years died Monday August 16 1965 aged 64. A Yonkers nursing graduate she served in France and Germany and held long American Legion memberships. Funeral services were held Thursday at Emmerson Redlands Mortuary chapel with graveside rites by American Legion Post 106.

Paul Jones No Hitter Clinches Eastern Ontario Title

Orono Midgets beat Trenton 9 to 3 to win the Eastern Ontario Championship in a three games to none series. Paul Jones pitched a no hitter with eighteen strikeouts and two hits while seven walks allowed Trenton three runs. John Mathers Earl Cobble Dick led Orono with three hits. others added key RBIs as Orono advances to provincial playdowns.

Water system in Orono waits for OWRC clearance

Village water service remains blocked as the OWRC construction department seeks clearance before operation. Officials noted a few corrections, including pump alignment and tank painting, while Curvply Wood Products funding to expand the main from 6 to 8 inches was discussed but not secured.
