Orono Street Fair and Dance Planned on August 18

The Orono Chamber of Commerce sponsors an August 18 street fair on Main Street featuring eight adult and children games plus a giant bingo. Keating Orchestra of Peterborough will play for round and square dancing. A 50 40 10 cash draw offers prizes with ticket price of 1.00, proceeds shared with the winner the Chamber and the seller. Tickets serve as admission. The event caps the Chamber monthly meeting agenda held Monday night at the Northway.

Kendal Students to Join Orono as Bus Plans Shift

The Clarke Township Public School Area Board met to set 1965-66 busing, moving Kendal area pupils to Orono and reassigning grades. Oak and Antioch schools close. Kirby Enterprise and Leskard host certain grades while Starkville opens temporarily.

Orono Chamber Plans Police Backing for Underpass

The Orono Chamber of Commerce will hold a meeting Monday August 16 at 7 30 p m with the Police Trustees to seek support for the Highway 115 underpass into Orono The debate centers on Trustee backing and timing amid parking concerns and a Department of Transportation study.

Village To Supply Municipal Water This Coming Week

The Orono municipal water system will be completed within a week with mains and the water stand pipe to be flushed sterilized and cleansed. Once the pump is in operation the system will be ready for customer connections later next week and water use will begin after a mid week completion.

The Orono junior girls team clinched a spot in the finals by beating Welcome in the semi final at Orono Park on Thursday night, marking two straight wins over Welcome.

Newtonville adds two rooms at cost $84,500

Clarke Township Area School Board accepted a tender of 84 500 for two classrooms and a utility room at Newtonville Public School. The project awaits Department of Education approval before starting and provincial grants cover 60 000 with the local board paying 24 500. Once finished Newtonville will absorb students from Port Granby and Starkville schools.

Electrically heated homes expand in Bowmanville district

Bowmanville and district now report more than 260 all electric dwellings including 83 within Bowmanville town limits and 170 in surrounding areas. Orono adds 16 all electric homes plus 16 six all electric apartment suites. Ernest Dent notes every new Orono house last year was all electric.

Clarke Township Area Public School Board Seeks Teacher

The Clarke Township board reports a vacant Kendal position with no leads at present. Mrs. Preston joins Brown's school staff while finances show about 81,000 dollars in combined funds and bills totaling 10,040.70. Grades 1 and 2 hours, bus schedules, and yard maintenance are to be reviewed.
