Rodeo Planned For Orono Fair Grounds Kids Activity

Orono Chamber of Commerce hears plans for a bike Rodeo to teach children bicycle safety before the carnival. Tests include mechanical, balance, braking, signalling, and an oral portion with prizes and crests for participants. The event begins 6 30 tonight at the fair grounds track.

Orono Junior Girls Rally to Beat Newcastle 18 4

Orono junior girls moved to second place in the league after an 18 to 4 win over Newcastle. Marie Hooey and Sharon Willis pitched, Peggy Hancock caught, five innings were played. Hooey, Willis, Hancock, Cooper, Nicholson and Tyrrell led Orono at bat.

Orono Street Fair Promises Star-Studded Carnival

The third annual Chamber of Commerce Street Fair in Orono features Vince Mountford as emcee, Mary Mae Demers novelty dancing, Seppe Leive juggling acts, and George Wade square dance calls. Main Street dancing is free. viewers pay 25 cents to enter. Games include Merr Go Round Ferris Wheel and a Travel Trailer raffle draws Aug 17 after 6:30 p.m.

Trousseau Tea Held For Mary Ann Armstrong

A trousseau tea for bride-to-be Mary Ann Armstrong was held last Saturday from 2 to 5 30 p m at her parents home Mr and Mrs Wm Armstrong. Guests were greeted at the door by Mrs Wm Armstrong and others. Local girls from Sunday School served and tea was poured by multiple hosts. Several showers were held for Mary Ann in Hamilton and Orono.

Durham 4-H Poultry Club Tours Toronto Farm Tour

The Durham 4-H Poultry Club traveled to Toronto after a 8:30 start visiting Pickering Livestock Farms and a slaughtering plant. They toured Toronto elevators, egg grading Weston facilities, Mastering station, and United Co-operative Feeds Farm learning poultry operations. Ron Brooks Pete Bonis and Bob Cotham assisted with arrangements.

Death of Randolph Woodward in Bowmanville

Randolph Woodward died at Bowmanville Memorial Hospital on Monday August 8 1960 after a three month illness. He was 81 82 years old and born in Clarke Township. He married Margaret Jane Lunn in Peterborough in 1911 and lived in Bowmanville 40 years after previously residing in Orono. A Goodyear retiree, he belonged to Loyal Orange Lodge of Orono and St Pauls United Church. Survived by two daughters Hazel Smith and Velma Taylor a son James Murrell nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral held at Morris Funeral Home Bowmanville with service at 2 p m on Wednesday August 10. Interment Orono Cemetery.

Orono Drama Festival Prompts CBC Interview

Miss Elizabeth Odlum of Whitby will interview the Orono Drama Festival convener Mrs Samuel. The event runs September 8 9 and 10 at 8 15 p m in Orono Town Hall with admission 75 cents adults 50 cents children. Eight plays will be staged with prizes for best actor actress and director.

Township fines for throwing refuse on roads set at 300

Township Council in regular session August 2 final readings given for by laws prohibiting refuse along township roads and on lot 16 concession 2 Clarke. The by law sets maximum penalty of 300.0 for violations. Bruce Yeo asked for a full width road between lots 23 and 24 concession 4 but agreement on land needed. Mel Cox and family discussed Cox Trailer Camp changes with Council. S B Rutherford appointed to replace resigning Orono Park Board member A Wallace. Cobbledick Street designated through street by Department of Highways. Health Unit advised septic refuse could be buried or spread on agricultural land. Next meeting set for September 6.

About 100 residents heard Ontario Water Resources officials and local trustees discuss building a municipal water system for Orono. The panel cited growth projections, health survey findings, and land use implications, arguing safe water and land efficiency justify early preparation.

Ganaraska Opens New Garden Hill Park

The Garden Hill Conservation Area opens with a 30 acre pond on an old millpond site. MLA Alex Carruthers and chief conservation engineer A H Richardson lead the ceremony.
