Orono pool hosted Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety tests on July 26 and 27 as part of a month long program sponsored by the Orono Red Cross Society. 140 children completed the lessons with high attendance. tests covered Beginners Junior and Intermediate levels plus five Bronze Medallion candidates on July 29.

Afternoon contest on Sam Turner farm Bowmanville. junior winner Bill Clan Millbrook with Lynn Brown Newcastle second. Senior winner Don Winslow Ida with Don Welsh Bowmanville runner-up. Special prize of twenty five dollars went to Bill Olan. A report by C N Heath shows Durham 1960 tobacco output of 4 402 467 pounds from 67 farms and Northumberland 3 741 246 pounds from 57 farms. Orono Pool Sets Adult Swim Twice Weekly
Orono Memorial Park Board approved two one hour adult swim blocks at the Orono pool on Tuesday and Friday from eight to nine pm for ages eighteen and over with lifeguards on duty.
