Trailer breaks away collides with parked car on Main street

On Monday afternoon a trailer detached from Ken Neal's car while southbound on Main Street. Neal jumped after it but was knocked down. His car rolled into a parked vehicle owned by Taylor near Dean's Bakery, bending fenders and bumper. No serious injuries reported.

Students During Holidays Can Take Restricted Jobs Ottawa

Elliott M. Little, director of national selective service, says permits will be issued to students for school holidays. If munitions work is needed, they shift to that work. farmers’ sons may be barred unless refusal blocks employment. Under 21 casual after school or holiday work during sessions needs no permit if they attend day school. No permit needed for part time work subsidiary to normal jobs. Labor market conditions determine permit eligibility.

The National Red Cross campaign aims for 9,000,000 starting May 11. Orono and District Branch sets a 1000 objective to fund local knitting and sewing comforts and national medical supplies. Funds support overseas hospitals huts blood donor clinics and wartime food boxes for prisoners of war.

Kinmount Sawmill Fire Destroys 20 Buildings

A Tuesday night blaze in Kinmount razed 20 buildings as 400 residents battled to save homes. The fire, starting at John Austin's sawmill, spread via a strong wind. Fenelon Falls helped but their engine was destroyed. Loss pegged at 8000 dollars with total damage near 200000 dollars.
