Omemee Tannery Burned After Fire Destroys Plant
The Omemee tannery of North American Leather Co. was destroyed by a fire on Monday, taking most machinery with it. The plant began about 65 years ago and employed nearly 100 men on war orders. Fire started in the hot air flume, water was drawn from the Pigeon River a half mile away, and nearby houses were scorched.
