Two German Prisoners Escape Bowmanville Camp Again
Bowmanville escapees Ern est Wagner and Reinhardt Pfundter, both German lieutenants, fled Tuesday evening from the Bowmanville internment camp. Wagner, 34, ski instructor in Montreal 1937 38, and Pfundter, 21, are described as tall and dark. A light training plane was stolen near Barker Field and crashed after a failed escape attempt. Police suspect the airmen aided by the getaway.

A Fisherman Lands District’s Largest Brown Trout
Ken Neals landed the district’s largest brown trout at Mr. Joe Hall's flume after a 15 minute struggle. The 22 inch fish weighed 4 pounds 14 ounces and measured 5 inches in depth. Wink Winters assisted to prevent the fish from flopping back. both hands suffered minor scratches. The catch was made on a light No 1 hook with a two foot gut and a tele scope pole.

Jack Barnes Defies The German Sub Waters
Mr and Mrs W C Crossley received word from their son Jack Barnes on Tuesday last from a port in South America. He has made another safe voyage from the States through sub infested waters. He was filling in on a boat during this trip and relieved a man who had appendicitis. Before sailing he had 14 passport photos taken. He will fly back to the States and then return to his regular ship. Jack is in good health and asks to be remembered to friends in Orono and district.
