Port Hope Plans New Hospital Wing Details
Plans for a half million dollar Port Hope Hospital extension were outlined at the General Board meeting. Architect Robert J. Creighton said the project would form the nucleus of a new hospital with entrance on Princess Street and offices moved to the new wing. Only the first floor will be finished, adding 21 beds to the current 48 for a total of 69 to serve about 12 000 people.

Seaway Costs Rise Beyond Early Projections
Administrator Lewis G. Castle of the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corp says U S costs now total 133 million and Canada 285 million for a 418 million project. Original estimates were 68 million for the U S and 176 million for Canada. He asked Congress for an additional 85 million loan to cover unexpected expenditures and amortize over 50 years. Construction began in 1984 and is set for completion in 1959.

Orono Trapping Class Open To Public This Friday
A trapping instruction class conducted by the Department of Lands and Forests will meet Friday at 8:00 p.m. in the Orono Odd Fellows Hall. Open Meeting On Withdrawal Of Public Schools
A Township Council special meeting discussed petitions from School Sections 1 8 and 9 to withdraw from the Township Public School Area. An open meeting for electors and ratepayers is set for April 25 at 8 30 p m to consider a by law. The council also scheduled a tender opening for April 17 at 8 p m for equipment rental gravel crushing bridge construction and related road by law work. The regular May meeting is planned for May 2 at 8 p m. The Pedler's By law for the Orono Police Trustees was discussed with no action. The annual road inspection occurred Monday afternoon.
