Three public school sections Antioch No 9 and Port Granby applied to withdraw from the Clarke Township school area. If approved the area would shrink from seven to four schools with final decision by the Department of Education after a public meeting. A ratepayers petition came from Antioch with No 9 and Port Granby petitions to be heard at a special council meeting.

Calfhead Vaccination Rules Move Across Ontario Counties
Durham County and South Monaghan Township join the Brucellosis Act supervised area on October 1 1956 with calf vaccination mandatory for all female calves. By April 1 1957 most counties will be supervised and veterinarians must sign an agreement with the Minister of Agriculture to be remunerated. Calves aged four to eleven months are eligible, with owners assisting during vaccination.

The Bowmanville-Orono Combines lost 9 to 4 to Tillsonburg on Tillsonburg ice in a semi final opener. Tillsonburg outshot 42 to 29 and led 4-1 after the first period and 7-2 after the second. Berwick, Samanski, and West scored for Bowmanville with Bervick adding two goals. Proceeds from local fundraising shows support Orono sports.
