The 1941 Ontario Red Cross reports total receipts of 1 852 874.00 with 1 075 000.00 sent overseas and 652 873.00 spent on peacetime work. A target of 12 000 Ontario women is urged for Nursing Auxiliary Reserve to meet potential epidemics or disasters.
Clarke Township Board of Health met in the Council Chamber Orono with all members present. The secretary reported expenses 221.75 and receipts 178.78 for the first three months of 1942 and the board appointed George Butters as Sanitary Officer with powers under the Public Health Act. The meeting adjourned after outlining handling of tuberculosis and hospital cases. The Red Cross campaign plans were announced with May dates and Norman Urquhart as Ontario Division Campaign Chairman. The Canadian Red Cross sent 25000 to aid Greek children via milk products from the Greek War Relief Fund projects.
Toronto chief constable D C Draper failed to overturn a dangerous driving conviction from a Clarke township collision on September 28. The Court of Appeal, in a unanimous decision, upheld a $300 fine and found clear dangerous driving despite Draper’s explanations about a road curve and unseen Miller car.
The Orono Branch held its April meeting at Orange Hall with reports from Mrs. McLaren Mrs. Murray and Rev. Littlewood on the Provincial Convention. Plans focus on ARP work and home nursing classes for air raids emergencies and epidemics as the national drive to raise 9 000 000 begins in May.

Clarke Township council meets in Orono to form an intensive salvage collection plan led by H Lowery and J J Mellort with Civil assistance from Dominion Government. Wages for road work raised to 30 cents per hour as tax and budget matters, calcium chloride bids, and numerous bills approved.
A Durham County notice appeals to electors to vote yes on an April 27 plebiscite to grant the government freedom to raise men for overseas service. It argues the mandate from 1940 and wartime commitments require action, linking to Canada’s war aims and the Canada Resources and Mobilization Act. Mrs Trickey of Toronto Temperance and Christian Citizenship Secretary of the Dominion Board was guest speaker at Park Street United Church Easter Thank-offering meeting on April 7.
