Lakeshore Baseball League elects 1959 officers in New Castle
The Lakeshore Minor Baseball Association met in New Castle on Wednesday evening and elected Murray McKnight of Bowmanville as league president for 1959. Cecil Carveth was chosen secretary and Arnold Wade named Honorary President. The next meeting is April 28 to confirm entries for four groups PeeWees Bantams Juveniles and Juniors.

Cattle Loss as Maple Grove Barn Fire Burns 33 Cows
A Maple Grove barn fire destroyed the S. S. Morton operation and killed four cows from a 33 head herd. Firefighters rescued the rest, with $25,000 in damage to a 2000 bushels grain stock and machinery. Jack Morton, husband of Patsy Moffat, noted insurance coverage.

Fire destroys Brow Top barn and livestock near Orono
Early Wednesday morning a fire destroyed the barn on Mr Rienstra’s Brow Top property in Clarke Township north of Orono. Two thousand turkey chicks, 150 pigs, 200 chickens and feed were lost. the house and driving shed were spared. Cause undetermined. insurance covered the barn. The Orono Fire Department stood by.

Clarke Union Honors Residents Before Moving Away
Friends and neighbours gathered as Clarke Union presented Mr. and Mrs. Neil Rainey with matching lamp sets, and Mr. and Mrs. Chatterton with similar gifts. The event followed by cards and a program. The Rainey family is relocating to Sunderland and the Chattertons to Orono. Earlier, the Orono United Church choir honored Neil and Milton Rainey with Hymn Books for their choir work, and Neil Rainey received a pen and pencil set from the Sunday School.

Consulting Engineers of Marshall Macklin Monaghan proposed a four phase water and sewer project for Orono with a total initial cost of 268 486 31 for water and 216 087 55 for sewer and a combined financing estimate of 140 000 to 175 000 on a 20 25 assessed land value basis. The plan includes a new well and pump station near Centre Street and an elevated 250 000 gallon tank.
