The Dairymen's League meeting at Grange Hall with about 150 members led to a plan to draft a milk price scale to submit to local purchasing companies. George Martin of Wawayanda was elected chairma n. A follow up meeting is set for Tuesday September 28 to appoint a committee and finalize actions.
Four people died in an explosion at the Dupont Powder Works in Gibbstown New Jersey on September 22.
At Timaipeast on September 22 four young brides perished when a cyclone of storms struck during a wedding gathering. Names of victims and exact locations not released by authorities. Surviving relatives mourn as investigators review weather reports for possible causal links.
Georges Van Amburgh about 60 a farm hand for T. J. Wilson collapsed at 7 10 am Sunday on Oscar Carrs hotel premises. Cause of death likely heart failure. He had been in Goshen Saturday and asked for water before dying. survived by wife and three children. Undertaker Merritt and Coroner Harding attended.
Three were killed and twenty injured in a head on collision of Long Island electric trains this morning. Authorities blame negligence by a telegraph operator. The fatal toll later rose to three with forty injured, seven police among them. both motormen died.
Hoffman Lodge No 12 F and AM plans a large meeting tomorrow night at the lodge rooms. Past Grand Master Robert Judson Kenworthy will attend with officials from Newburgh Goshen and this city. Plans for the new temple construction will be reviewed and financing discussed as the old house is torn down with construction slated to start October first. Giles Giles Company named contractor for a four story building with two stories for the lodge room, a landmark for the city.
A fraternity hazing complaint from West Point cadets reaches Washington. Cadets face possible court martial as they appeal to Secretary Garrison. The incident underscores tensions over hazing in military academies during September 1822.
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Matthias of Philadelphia on September 17. Mrs. Matthias was formerly Miss Florence Theall of Newburgh. Mr Matthias had lived in Walden before moving to Philadelphia and was formerly with the Eagle File Company.
The Republican County Committee met at two oclock in Go shen court howia with many representatives present. The meeting elected officers including Chairman George F. Gregg Treasurer L Gen Secretary J Mulder all unanimously. Discussions covered election registration and voting rules for cross party ballots and how votes are counted if a party lacks a full ticket. Two fires tore through Wisner avenue and James street areas causing extensive damage. The first fire ignited near the James G Martin estate foundry on Wisner avenue and burned for about an hour. The second blaze at 29 31 and 33 James street damaged three stores and upper apartments, with Leo Barnett ownership and Fycelsiors tenants affected. Firemen fought through the night aided by alarms and swift tenant warnings. No injuries reported, but property losses ran into thousands.
