Monticello Boy Dies in Navy Service

Nelo A Gis, 22, son of Mr and Mrs Rovst Gibbs of Monticene, died in Norfolk Virginia on Monday while serving in the navy. He enlisted June 2917 and was assigned to a camn then stecambed. The funeral was held Friday at 1 o clock after the arrival of the new wainn rrived in Monticodio on Wednesday evening.

Governor Whitman Signs Education Bill On Adult Training

Albany May 3 Governor Whitman signed a bill authorizing the Education Commissioner to establish training courses for teachers and illiterates over sixteen. It requires attendance at least once daily or in the evening for minors sixteen to twenty who cannot speak or write English. The act also provides for free kindergarten for young children and more school facilities. The measure includes an investigation into retirement pensions and annuities for state and municipal employees, to be conducted by a commission including the State Superintendent of Insurance and appointees of the governor and temporarily the president and speaker of the assembly.
