Mrs Josephine Iseman wife of former Mayor John E Iseman died Monday morning at 1 Highland avenue after a long illness. Born December 23 1845 in Wallkill she lived in Middletown since 1807, celebrated golden wedding last year. She served St Pauls Church as organist and choir director for 18 years and aided church and Sunshine Society. Survived by husband four children two sisters three brothers and other relatives. Funeral held at home Wednesday at 3 pm with interment private.
A 7 foot smoke stack weighing over 3 tons toppled during erection at the Hires Condensing Company creamery in Slate Hill. Rope failure caused the stack to crash through the roof, damaging timber and endangering many workers. No serious injuries or deaths reported, but damages exceed $250.
Detectives from Passaic Hudson and Bergen counties probe the murder of John Miller, a railroad detective found shot in a Susquehanna freight car. The exact location of the crime remains undetermined as investigators pursue leads from thieves tied to Homestead and Sevaucns.

Port Jervis June 19 Daniel Hoovencamp and Dewey Hovencamp were arrested by Chief Brown on charges of burglary to the third degree and larceny from the Erie railroad. Police found a large quantity of leather worth 15 cents and various clothing, shoes, canned goods, and merchandise valued at $200 in their possession. They are held pending investigation.
The midsummer session of the Hudson Presbytery met Tuesday at tor toh Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Emory R. Webster preaching. The Ottsville Church report urged dissolving pastoral relations with Rev. L. B. Palmer. A call from Chelstire church for Rev. A Van Deretee, from Marrlead, was approved for installation on Tuesday, July 14.
Uniform headlight standard proposed for New York motor vehicles signed by Governor Whitman. Front lamps must be visible at least two feet ahead and reflectors must not rise more than 42 inches above the level at the car’s position. Lamps required to switch off within one hour after sunset. Read lights must illuminate the number plate at 56 feet.
George Povello, private detective, faced a New York Central reward case tied to the 1915 Highland Falls murder of Omar Hotaling. After opening arguments and testimony on confession validity, the jury returned a verdict for Povello, awarding the full $500 sought, with related Orange County actions noted.
