City approves all-way stops at Palmyra intersections

Groundbreaking planned for La Purisima sanctuary
Bishop Tod Brown of the Diocese of Orange will join La Purisima Church to celebrate the start of construction for a 16,000 square foot sanctuary that will seat over 1,200. The ceremony is at 11 am Saturday at 11712 N. Hewes St. Open by late 2004, the 2,500-member church has raised over $3 million of a $5.8 million goal through its Jubilee Project begun three years ago.

Family Reunion Celebration at Ronald McDonald House
Orange City News notes families pay only five dollars a night to stay at the Ronald McDonald House on South Batavia Street. Since 1989 the house has housed 500 to 600 families yearly, offering food shelter and a shuttle to hospitals for families with critically ill children.

Council denies Eli Home shelter expansion proposal
The Eli Home, Inc. failed to win City Council approval for expanding its shelter after redraw plans. The council voted 4-1 against the project with neighbors arguing the design was too large for the neighborhood. Eli Executive Director Lorri Galloway said options will be pursued without a clear plan and the shelter may operate without a conditional use permit.
