International Plowing Match winner joins Canadian trial team
James Eccles of Mount Pleasant near Trafalgar led the Hold class at Burford's International Plowing Match. The winner is among a select group qualifying for a seven week tour of the British Isles in January to compete in British plowing events and study agricultural methods under manager Alex McKinney Jr. Eccles is married to Margaret Ford and is nephew to local residents Archie Eccles and Mrs. W. A. McClure.

IODE Chapter Holds November Bridge and Fund Plans
Nearly thirty members of the Coun tess' of Strathmore Chapter JODE met at the Regent's home. They discussed changing clinic dates, appointed Mrs Harold Hancox convener, and approved $25 in donations to British and European relief and related funds. The group planned a November bridge, welcomed new and former members, and coordinated Christmas charity drives including clothing and gifts for England.

Two Men Charged With Local Break-In
Georgetown and a Norval man face charges for breaking into the home of Mrs Barbara Tost on Queen Street near Scott Motor Sales. A gold wristwatch valued at $50 was later recovered from a Toronto pawn shop. Entry was by smashing a cellar window and forcing the cellar door lock. A front living room window was broken with a soft drink bottle and the ice box raided. Police found burnt matches and missing food. The accused were arrested in a Norval home and will plead guilty in court today.

Harry Barth Dies After Long Illness
William Henry Barth died in Hamilton on Friday October 14 after a lengthy illness and an earlier accident. He was born June 3, 1865 near Morriston, Puslinch Township, and married Isabella Roszel on March 15, 1904. Survived by his wife, four sons Gordon Vancouver, Stanley Fort William, Cecil Esquesing, Lloyd London, six grandchildren, and one sister Mrs. William Schultz of Galt. Funeral from 10th Line Esquesing to Glen Williams United Church conducted by Rev. Alex Cowan with pallbearers Alvin Starret, Albert Presswood, Archie Eccles, Jack Eason, Fred Weaver, John Hancock. interment Glen Williams Cemetery.

Martha Jamieson, Kingston stage designer, has a British Council scholarship to study in England for a year at the Old Vic Theatre. Designs by Jamieson and others by Grant McDonald and by Montreal and Toronto designers will be shown in Queen's University Senate Room toward the end of October. Miss Jamieson is granddaughter of the late George Leslie and niece of Mrs. William Rowman of RR Georgetown.
