Georgetown Athletic Association formed and fundraiser planned
The Georgetown Athletic Association is to be formed at a gathering in Oddfellows Hall on Friday October 26. Tickets are limited to 300 with 50 cents admission for adults, free for school children. The event includes light refreshments and a chance to elect the permanent sports committee. The Legion W.A. hosted a chicken supper for veterans, presenting each with a $6 bill, with dancing after, to music by Mr. and Mrs. McPherson and Mrs. Glaseford.

Georgetown Seeks Sewerage System Approved by Voters
Property owners and tenants voted yesterday with about half of those eligible turning out. The tally showed a seven to one majority in favor of a sewerage system. Results by wards indicate broad support.

Georgetown Women's Institute Holds October Meeting
The October gathering of the George town Women's Institute met at 3 p.m. with Mrs. W. G. Mc Dowell hosting. Officers led the session, reports and correspondence were read, $10 was donated to the Canadian Institute for the Blind, and members planned a fundraiser in the LOOF Hall. Program featured piano and vocal solos, a plastics talk, and a National Anthem closing with tea.

Robert English of Green Gables Dies at 73
Robert Emmett English, proprietor of Green Gables summer hotel at Wasaga Beach, died in Collingwood Hospital on October 2. Born in Brockville, he was a Spanish American War veteran and served in the Philippines and Boxer Rebellion. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery Georgetown with pallbearers Harold Campbell and his nephews.

WO2 George Gilmer son of Mr and Mrs Fred Gilmer came home last week aboard the New Amsterdam after thirteen months with the RCAP. He enlisted in July 1941, trained at Galt No 8 Repair Depot Winnipeg and re enrolled for air crew in 1943 training in Toronto Calgary Jarvis and Malton before going overseas. He is married to Ivy Hancock and formerly worked for Smith Stone Ltd.

CSM Ken Murray arrives in Canada aboard the New Amsterdam with the 48th Highlanders after serving in France Belgium Holland and Germany. Enlisted April 1942 with the Lorne Scots he trained at Brampton Niagara Magenta Quebec Nanaimo Vernon BC and overseas from May 1943. He married Connie Logan of Aldershot overseas and they have a three month old daughter Marilyn Carol. Mrs Murray hopes to join him by Christmas. His father RSM John Murray also served and recently discharged.

Everson Sailor Returns From Overseas Service
Pte. John T. Everson of the Lorne Scots, son of Mr and Mrs William Everson Glen Williams, came home last week after serving overseas in June 1941 aboard the Ile de France. He enlisted after working at the Alliance Paper Mill and has since transferred to the RCAMC. Everson served in England with No 28 Canadian General Hospital Unit.

Pte Jack Noble son of Afr and Mrs James Noble Lime House arrived home Monday after serving with the Lorne Scots then Princess Patricia Regiment. He sailed to overseas action in 1941, fought in Sicily and Italy and on the Western Front in Holland and Germany as an infantryman. Before enlisting he helped on the Cheltenham farm.

Pte Herbert Robinson returned to Canada aboard the New Amsterdam and reached the Glen a week ago Monday. Enlisting in April 194, he served overseas from July 1944 in Italy France Holland and Belgium with units including the Winnipeg Grenadiers and Western Nova Scotia Regiment. He is married to Doreen Willett. their daughter Elaine celebrated her first birthday since his departure. Prior to enlistment he worked at Glen Tertile Industries and belonged to the Lorne Scots Reserve.

The Woman’s Missionary Society of Georgetown United Church held a thankoffering gathering October 2 with Mrs. Roger Self as guest speaker. She spoke on living and loving as one Christian family, urged support for missions in Africa and China, and noted needs for young leaders and Japanese-Canadian children’s kindness. A sale raised $70 800 and the meeting closed with hymns and social time.

Mrs. Leslie Robinson spent the weekend with relatives in Vankoughnet Muskoka. Mr. and Mrs. William Bennett visited Peterboro for the holiday weekend.
