Town Council Actions on Monday October 7
The council hired J Arnott Early as assessor at 1690 yearly. They sold old wading pool property to D W Barreger with sale contingent on Recreational Council. D Larkin was hired to paint the Fire Brigade room in the Old Town Hall for 50. Legion Branch 120 asked to name the new street in Wartime Housing subdivision. A Court of Revision was appointed with Mayor Cleave and other members for 730 November 4. Nomination day was set for Friday November 22 and polling day for Monday December 9. A by law for a debenture up to 5000 to resurfacing Queen Street was passed. Payment of 1918 for extensive sidewalk repairs in Georgetown was approved. Lumber for an open air skating rink was to be provided by the town. A title search showed a roadway at John Street sub way existed before the subway was built.

Girls Club Formation Discussed By Local Teens
About forty young ladies met with director Hal Newman at the Old Town Bell to plan a girls club to promote feminine involvement in recreational activities under advisor Kathie Thompson. A meeting for younger girls 16 and under is set for Tuesday at 4 15 at the Old Town Bad to form a separate group.

Coleman family meets Montgomery at Windsor Station

Lions Club approved a $100 donation to a bond fund for each Georgetown serviceman. The group announced a November Cherokee rodeo in the Arena with a contract signing imminent. Nelson Cooke Dies After Lengthy Illness
Nelson Cooke aged 61 died at his Main Street home after a long illness dating from last February. A Scotch Block native, he was a farmer who worked for Smith and Stone, Ltd. He married Margaret Ellen Ross-Hall in 1915 and lived in Georgetown all his life. He was a Church of England member, Conservative, and a member of the Orange Order and Oddfellows. Funeral services were held at the McClure Pumeral Home with Ven. W. G. O. Thompsan in charge. burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers included Joseph Armstrong, Fred Armstrong, Fred McNally, Harvey Dewhurst, John Long, and Thomas Parry.

Canadian nurse Audrey Sharpe returns from St John Ambulance
Mrs. Audrey Sharpe arrived home after a year of service in England with the St John Ambulance Brigade. She went overseas in September 1945 and earned the rank of Air Lady Cadet Officer, equivalent to a second lieutenant, one of four promoted from the original 27 in the unit. In England she served at Winford Orthopaedic Emergency Hospital near Bristol as the sole Canadian staff member.
