Esquesing Road Superintendent Receives $25 Monthly Car Allowance
Esquesing Council met in October with Reeve G W Murray presiding. Deputy Reeve George Cleave and Drs. George Curtie Howard May and BR N Brown attended. A by law amended by law No 8 grants the road superintendent a $25 monthly car allowance in addition to salary. The grader operator salary set at the hour. A 16 sheep claim for a sheep owned by Manassah passed. Road accounts totaled $1501.56 with relief $11.25 and $190.76 for gravel contract and $52 for bulldozer rental to George Brankley. The Reeve and Treasurer were empowered to pay labor costs semi monthly. Accounts passed for payment included Letter Shop Supply Co 43 71.50 18.56.

Girvan, a two war veteran, rose from the ranks with the 48th Highlanders and held command roles in training depots and Ottawa HQ. Their two sons served. Brampton Athlete Killed in Norval Accident
A Brampton taxi swerved off the No 7 highway near Norval and rolled several times injuring seven men. Peter Anthony, 30, a noted Brampton lacrosse and hockey player, died from a fractured skull and internal injuries. James Gifford, 21, suffered a broken pelvis. George Martell had head lacerations. The other four men, Grant Gallagher, Gordon Steel, Earl Copeland and Jack Palmer, were treated and released. Police investigators E R Lemon and Mervin Robb said no charges against the driver.
