Georgetown council weighs new industry and town improvements
Council heard from Boutelle president of the Chamber of Commerce on progress to attract new industry to Georgetown. The chamber prepared an information booklet and will advise the industrial committee after inquiries. The town may level private property to offer it for industrial use. Other items include sidewalk construction by Armstrong Brothers Construction, water mains on Young Street and Chapel East, and approval of Apple Day and Poppy Day events. Reeve Marshall opposed some sidewalk funding for other areas. Election changes and a second polling place for Ward 2 were approved.

Clergy and Women's Association Meet at Acton St Alban
Archdeacon Ww W. G. O. Thompson led a deanery gathering of Anglican clergymen and Women’s Association members at St. Alban’s Church Acton yesterday. A morning service and communion were conducted with rural Dear Heathcote as celebrant and Acton rector Hey Kalps Price assisting. A rural dean was nominated to succeed Mr Heathcote who will retire after six years. Canon F C Jackson of Oakville was forwarded to the bishop for approval. Rev Ralph Porritt of Lowville was elected secretary treasurer. St George’s Georgetown celebrates a centennial. Miss Hamilton described a bishops’ meeting in London. Mrs Georgina Checkley Hamilton, Dominion Diocesan president, attended along with other W A members who reported their year’s activities.

After a lengthy illness Barbara Eleanor Beaumont 17 of Prescott died Thursday. She was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Harpin Beaumont. Her father is Glen Williams native and her mother is sister of former Georgetown resident Mrs. Hedley Shaw. Uncle Arthur Beaumont Glen Williams attended the funeral at St Johns Church Prescott.

Plan Drive to Pay For New Building
Esquesing Agriculture Society directors met at Miss Charlotte McCulloughs home to canvass funds to wipe out about 1000 in debt on the pew building at the fair grounds. This years prize list reached 3300, about 500 more than 1951, despite lower attendance and longer exhibits. Plans include a cadre early next month and a directors dinner at month’s end. A luncheon set was won by Mrs. P O Ow Cleave.
