Jack Harrison Wounded in Belgium With 11th Canadian Field Ambulance
Lance-Corporal Jack Harrison has been wounded in action in Belgium while serving with the 11th Canadian Field Ambulance. His wife and two children live in Toronto. He suffered injuries to his mouth face and shoulder. Harrison enlisted in November 1940 and trained at Toronto and Camp Borden before going overseas. He had worked at the MacIntyre Mines in Schumacher prior to enlistment.

Uniformed boys on leave included Vern Kirby Jack Gilbert Herbert Preston Bill Korzack Marjorie Schenk and Fanny Weaver. Mrs White returned to Florida after summering with the Wagstaffe home. LAC Henry Lorriman and Mrs Lorriman toured Saskatoon for a holiday with the Lorriman parents. Beaumont Employees held a Bingo for overseas parcel fund with prizes to Mrs H Hills Carl Schenk and Mary Cooper winning the box of groceries and the donated painting by Fred Weaver drawn for by Mrs Cooper.

Minutes and Activities From Friendly Society Meeting
The Roll Call featured a pickle recipe and a Scripture Reading by Mrs Cox. Minutes were read and approved. Plans were made to send eight boxes to boys overseas and to hold a Halloween dance and box social in October. The program included instrumental by Eleanor Griffin, reading by Mrs Whidis, poetry by Mrs Wood, home economics by Mrs Henderson, and a contest won by Mrs Cox and Bra Whidis. The meeting closed with the National Anthem.

Pte. John H. Bud Oliver aged 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Oliver, was killed in action with the Lake Superior Regiment in France after enlisting in December and serving in Yarmouth N S and Camp Borden. He had been overseas since July and was in Belgium when last heard from. Survived by parents a brother Wesley and four sisters Marie Louise June and Mrs Ernie Cardinell. Father a veteran of the last war.

Claude Victor Dillon 19, driver with the Royal Canadian Armoured Medical Corps, died September 17 after being wounded in action in France. Born in Georgetown he enlisted 1942 and served overseas since August 1943. Survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Percy Dillon and siblings Shirley Audrey Ruth Nelson and Ross. First Man to Go Active From Town Wounded in France
Sunday evening brought news to Mrs. Thomas Given that her husband Sgt. Thomas Given was wounded in action in France. He is the town’s first active volunteer and has served nearly five years overseas. Given joined January 1940 with the First Canadian Contingent, served in the Reserve Militia for years, earned the Efficiency Medal, and fought with the Lorne Scots before transferring to the Highland Light Infantry. He worked at Alliance Paper Mills before enlisting and took part in D Day invasion and heavy fighting in Caen and the Calais gap.

Mrs Elma Longstreet Dies After Short Illness
Mrs Elma Longstreet of Ballinafad died September 28 in Guelph General Hospital after a brief illness. She was 51. She was formerly Elma Lane of Limehouse, married 1916 to Clayton Longstreet who predeceased her 12 years earlier. Surviving are three children Frank at home Ruth Linham Acton Vera Sanderson Toronto and two brothers Nelson Toronto and Rev William Mayronne Saskatchewan. Funeral from Lot 3 Con 8 Evin township conducted by Rev A O W Foreman with burial at Blair Cemetery Belfountain. Pallbearers listed among local friends. funeral attended by area residents and friends from multiple cities. Flowers from many relatives and groups including The Family Pillow and The Good Neighbour Club.

Beardmore & Co Limited marks a century of tanning in Hamilton Ontario with a large Acton Park picnic attended by nearly 2000. The company gave leather windbreakers to employees and a feather version for those on active service, plus an October 10 holiday with pay. PTE Jack Brill Wounded in Action in Belgium
Telegram from Ottawa says PTE Jack Brill of the Toronto Scottish Regiment was wounded in Belgium. A Georgetown High School graduate who went overseas at the end of June this year, he is son of Mr and Mrs Dave Brill and has a brother Arnold in the RCAF in Newfoundland. Further details to follow.
