Teachers in the Esquesing Public School Area system will see a basic salary scale from 3800 to 8300 starting September 1. The release lists four levels with ranges, plus principal pay tied to the schedule and additional allowances of 200 500 800 and 1100 depending on level, plus 75 per classroom.
Kinsmen Club plans a hell driver exhibition near Georgetown Park on June 17. Ken Milne, club officer, says area residents voiced concerns but none filed complaints. He believes it is a misunderstanding and notes only the grandstand area will be used, with dust control measures and limited noise.
Tanhardt's Ouida known as Casey, owned by C. D. Chapman of RB 2 Centre Miss Laura Trebie, is gaining recognition in the London show circuit as a promising junior prospect. The pup, described with affection, shows potential in conformation events at early stages.
Council approves a two stage boost deal with the George Town Police Association granting a 5 percent salary rise this year and a 10 percent increase next year. The one year agreement raises statutory holidays to nine, expands overtime allowances, and adds one day of sick leave per month to a maximum of 150 days. Police chair Jim Young says the pact benefits both sides.
Park View Blvd residents pleaded Monday for curbs and red road on the dead end street while noting natural drainage reduces sewer needs. A flasher light from Joh Highway will move to Delrex Bird Highway corner. Six applicants for town engineer posted, and a Clover Lawn Investments permit issued for a Mac's Milk outlet. Mrs Jean Miethispech to return as municipal clerk.
Dennison Manufacturing Co plans to buy a 10 acre tract on Todd Road to expand operations. The land borders a site previously acquired by Rolling Specialties and lies opposite the General Fireproofing plant under construction. A Monday letter states Dennison aims to complete purchase arrangements by May, and the council approved the sale agreement.
Cadet Major Steve Ewing named best cadet and Col Barber Trophy recipient at Georgetown District High School annual inspection in Georgetown Park on Wednesday May 11. Other winners include Marie Pignatelli best girl cadet, Tom Hutchison best first year boy, Velma Keir best first year girl, and the Girls Precision Squad led by CSM Randy Hibb. Georgetown Master Cadets for 1968 feature Ewing, Levy, Stef, Graff, and Hanson with training trips to Jamaica Banff Ipperwash.
The council continues talks on adding to or purchasing a building on James St. Dr. Harrison criticizes current spend on plans while Mayor Gibbons notes inquiries cost nothing. Dr. Ballentine cites possible $50,000 for parking land with a house. Deputy Reeve Young proposes a downtown seven story house for about $18,000.
W C Berendsen coordinator of adult services for Ontario spoke at a North Halton Association for the Mentally Retarded gathering in St George's Church on May 12. He showed slides of Canadian workshop activities and discussed the HOPE CENTRE at Hornby, noting six trainees at HOPE working on tasks such as repairing lawn chairs. Call 377-6368 for restrapping webbed lawn chairs. Refreshments followed, hosted by the Georgetown Ladies’ Auxiliary.
Early Friday May 13 a car registered to Frederick Curtie of 32 Eastern St Acton left Main Street N near a railway bridge, smashed a guard fence and plunged down a steep embankment onto the tracks. Police report damage to the car estimated at $600 and bridge damage at $80 while investigators seek the driver.
A Hyde Park Drive land sale stalled as council voted 4 to 4 to reject John A Mackenzie s 1700 bid for a build ing lot. Opponents argued the lots were valued around 2100 by a realtor report. The discussion noted prior sales and frontage differences in the valuation.
Construction of a chapel for Immanuel Lutheran Church is under way with April 1, 1967, as the target date for completion. Dax Developments of Georgetown holds the contract. The site at Windsor Rd and Carole St will serve worship and education for a congregation that began with a September 1963 service led by Rev. John Kuffner.
Campaign chairman Reg Broomhead says over $5,000 of the $6,500 goal has been raised for the Georgetown area Cancer Society drive. About 300 canvassers and area leaders took part in April fund raising, with over half funding research teams and urging early diagnosis through local efforts.
Ninety parish youths received their first communion after the eight oclock Mass at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church. Parish priest Father Otger DeVent led the ceremony with girls in white dresses and boys in white shirts.
