Garbage Mutual Aid plan spans five communities

Acton Mayor Les Duby proposed pooling garbage with Georgetown and four other North Halton communities to address dump closures and rising costs. The North Halton Urban Board discussed a shared incinerator with potential OWRC involvement, inviting Esquesing and Naseagaweya to June meeting for further talks.

June Open House Set For Cedarvale Centennial

Mountainview Bridge Proposal Falls in Narrow Council Vote

In Mountainview the council rejected a motion to approve the pre engineering study for rebuilding the Mountainview Road bridge. The five to four defeat blocks a plan seen as a safety issue amid long standing debate over four proposed bridges and their costs.

Town May Seek Emergency Help From Halton EMO

Georgetown may be asked to pledge emergency assistance to Halton County EMO. A by law would bind municipalities to aid in disasters anywhere in the county. The EMO committee last week urged in principle creation of a fund to cover costs, proposing about $10 000.

Downtown Reconstruction Leftovers Become Sinking Fund Debate

In a council discussion on downtown rebuilding proceeds the question arose whether leftover sinking fund money should be kept or expanded. Dr. Hyde said the fund’s purpose was met and no single district claimed the funds, while Dr. Harrison argued to retain the money in general revenue. The motion passed five votes.

Not Lazy Ones For Town Workmen

The lazy summer months are met boy for the town works State sewering will take up a large pact of the summer. The present storm sewer of Prince Charles Drive will be extended from Bairstow to Campbell Gate and King Street will be completely stem sewered. A long delayed job, the widening of Ontario S. will be started this same year. Plans call for the street to be widened from Main Street down to Ann Street. This will necessitate the relocation of a home on Temperance Street.

Young girl Anne Henderson struck by car in Prince Edward area tragedy

Anne Joy Henderson six children of Mr and Mrs George Henderson died after being struck while crossing Princess Anne Drive in Georgetown. The vehicle driven by John Dolor Richard 38 Weston was rented from Grant Brown Leasing Ltd. The offer of 2100 for Lot 1 was discussed by council as part of the property dispute tied to the tragedy. Funeral held with Rev Norman Young officiating at Knox Presbyterian Church and burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Anne left behind father mother siblings George Laura Janet Sheila.

Art Club Plans Cedarvale Exhibit and Events

Members of the Georgetown Pallet and Pencil Club organize an art exhibit in the Cedarvale main building board room for visitors during open house on Saturday June 4. Some members will also feature work at the Brandton Flower Festival on June 13. The club meets Tuesdays in Cedarvale with a Rowney's Art Supply representative scheduled as guest speaker next week.

Call Tenders Predict 25 Percent Increase For Removal Plant

Council heard engineer G U Proctor forecast a 25 increase in the iron removal plant and related controls costs. The town applied for 368 000, with Proctor deeming 406 390 more realistic, including an elevated storage tank. The iron removal plant sits at 110 008, now 138 008, while control and electrical equipment rose from 17 000 to 35 000. Proctor noted rising costs and urged tendering before applying to the Ontario Municipal Board for added funds. He suggested town water sufficiency for five years barring unusual growth, and advised against a second water supply from a river due to OWRC stance and contamination risk.

Home Nurse Graduation Highlights Red Cross Course

Eighteen 1966 Red Cross Home Nursing Programme graduates were honored at a May 16 ceremony at North Halton Golf and Country Club. Mrs. Mary Simpson spoke on course aims, including home care for the sick mothers and babies, and disaster readiness. Father Vincent McGivney discussed Recovery Inc. and mental health, noting self help and small group discussions.

Water Safety Week Learn Lifesaving Through Ages

A health notice emphasizes Water Safety Week from June 5. It notes drowning fatalities rise in summer for children and young adults, but adults over 35 appear in spring headlines. It urges ages 12 to 3 for supervision and training, and from age 14 on to gain land and water safety knowledge.
