Funeral in St Marys followed the death of Flying Officer J F Sutcliffe formerly of Georgetown. Born Agnes Bertha Monsop, widow of Rev J Fletcher Sutcliffe, he served in the RAF and was killed overseas. Survived by three daughters Mrs Harvey Edith Malton, Mrs Johnson Lillian Welland, Mrs Hodgett Florence Toronto. Interment Beechwood Forest.

Council Sets 1949 Day Mill Rate At Sixty Four
Council increased the 1949 tax rate to 64 mills an improvement of four mills over 1948. Payment due May 16 and September 16. GRC proposed hiring Rev J L Self as part time recreational director at 150 monthly honorarium on a trial three month basis, with council asked to cover the salary in estimates. Officials took over sewerage from contractor and discussed mill plans, industrial site, road damage costs, car licence bureau, and by law changes for hawkers and transient traders.

A birthday supper and dance celebrated the 21st anniversary of the local Legion branch.
