Georgetowns Sewage Plant Declared One Of The Finest

Engineer C R Hogey presents a detailed synopsis of the sewerage system in Georgetown Ontario including two pump stations and a disposal plant. Construction by Scott Jackson began July 1947 and faced varied subsoil conditions with coordination by Central Mortgage and town officials. The High Rate Trickling Filter plant serves about 6000 people and treats waste through pump, grit chamber, primary and secondary sedimentation, trickling filter, and sludge digestion before discharging purified effluent to the creek.

G R C Hockey for Next Two Weeks at Georgetown Arena

Georgetown Recreational Council opens a abbreviated hockey series under Rev J L Self at the arena drawing about 300 players and 200 spectators. Remaining Fridays feature juveniles midgets and bantams with Wednesday and Saturday games.

Bowman Re elected Legion Branch 120 President in Annual Meeting

David Bowman was re elected president of Branch 120 Canadian Legion at the Sunday afternoon meeting in the clubrooms. New officers include Clifford Hills as 1st vice president James Bell as 2nd vice president Wallace Thompson as secretary William Roney as treasurer Thomas Given as sergeant at arms and standard bearers Truce McCartney Bert Simpson. Committee chairs named Henry Shepherd James Murphy Alex Taylor Harvey Garvin and sick and publicity committees headed by Mrs Thomas Grieve and Thomas Grieve. Initiation of two new members Edward Stapleton and Ronald Mendham followed the elections.

Irish-born Cullen Dies in Guelph Hospital at 69

Patrick I Cullen of Georgetown died suddenly at St Joseph’s Hospital in Guelph on March 24. Born in Dublin and Ireland, he served in the Imperial Forces during the First War and later moved to Canada with Mary Webb, marrying in 1920. Survived by a sister in Dublin, he lived with the Boyles after his wife’s death. Requiem Mass held at Holy Cross Church. interment Greenwood Cemetery with Legion burial service.

Lion Ladies Hosts Night at Georgetown Lions Club

The Georgetown Lions Club held its annual Ladies Night at Yellow Briar near Brampton with Lion Chief J. L. Lambert presiding. Guests from Lakeshore Club included President Ray Swanson who helped induct Fred Chapman and Clarence Kennedy. Awards went to Jack Armstrong Don Barrager and Ray Whitmee while Riley Brethour led a radio quiz show with performances by Lions and wives. Receipts included a song gift noting husbands, and lucky draws were won by several members and Lakeshore guests. dancing closed the evening.

Religious Census to Be Conducted in Georgetown

During the Week of Prayer a religious survey was planned and will begin on April 4. Volunteer canvassers from local churches will visit every home with a questionnaire card to gather data, aiding all churches in the community and asking for cooperation.

No winner at first Brill O Nite at Roxy Theatre

Audrey Mitchell of Limehouse missed a five dollar prize after not being present when her name was called at the first Brill O Nite. Brill's Department Store sponsors weekly contests with a ten dollar prize next Tuesday. Participants deposit entry forms with name and address in a drum at Brill's or the theatre and must be present at draw time. Milly Mitchell received no consolation prize.

Georgetown Raiders Defeat Milverton 3-1 In Stratford

The Georgetown Raiders edged Milverton 3-1 in Stratford last Thursday before 2640 fans. Milverton opened the scoring with Nelson on a pass from Yost at 5 04, Nash answered for Georgetown at 11 24, and Delly Beaumont set Rene Martin up for a second period goal to seal the win as Georgetown shifted into high gear.
