Esquesing Society Plans Husking Corn Competition
In cooperation with the Halton Crop Improvement Association the Esquesing Agricultural Society will sponsor a Husking Corn Competition. The aim is to prove profitable high yield corn production with a target of 75 bushels per acre from three acres. New Regent Named as LODE Chapter Gathers at Legion Hall
The Countess of Strathmore Chapter LODE held its regular meeting in the Legion Hall. Mrs. L. J. Bell was installed as the new regent with nineteen members present. Two new members were welcomed: Mrs. H. E. Batkin and Mrs. Charles Rue as associate members. The retiring regent Mrs. A. J. Greig received a gift and a $25 donation to the Red Cross was made. Plans for the fifth chapter birthday on April 11 were announced. The group approved sending 3,000 cigarettes and chocolate to adopted mine workers and chose a crew member to receive a birthday card. An executive list of officers and committee heads for the year was named. The meeting closed with singing and light refreshments hosted by Miss M. Mackenzie, Miss M. Gaglt, and Mrs. S. Mackenzie.

Death of Mrs. John Presswood in Glen Williams
Annie Shaw widow of John Presswood died of a stroke on Thursday March 16 in her 78th year after failing health. Born in Knottingley England she settled in Glen Williams 31 years ago. husband predeceased her eight years earlier. Survived by 4 sons and 7 daughters, 35 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren. Funeral held March 20 at Glen United Church conducted by Rev. A. O. Foreman.

Grant of $1000 to Aid the Lorne Scots at Halton Meeting
The March Halton County Council session in Milton heard Col. Bertram Capt. Smith and Capt. McClure outline the Lorne Scots regiment activity and future needs. The regiment, split into youths around 17 and older men, reported strong efficiency with 477 men and the band sent to camp last year. The council discussed grant support and funds used for a 16 millimeter projector for training demonstrations.
