Harold Stafford Elected President Of Legion Branch 120
Harold Stafford was elected president of Georgetown Branch 120 of the Canadian Legion for 1944 45 at last Thursday evenings election. Four candidates sought the top post with Stafford chosen after a vote by ballot. The minutes report full officers list with Stafford as President and Fred McCartney as Past President. Delegates to the Zone meeting and Toronto Convention were named including Stafford Harlow and Gilmer.

Verdun Rebekah Lodge No. 184 marked its 26th birthday on Thursday night in the Arena with Euchre. Thirty seven tables opened for play, a pink and green Birthday table, and a noon lunch organized by Mrs. 8. C. Mackenzie. Prizes were awarded to several members with a Door Prize and a Birthday Prize drawn. The event closed with the National Anthem. A Swiss report notes the Mosquito bomber speed at 435 mph.

Brampton Tobacco Partner Hughey Dies After Illness
Hughey, 58, long-time Georgetown tobacco and billiards businessman, died Thursday at his Brampton residence after over two months of illness. He founded the Brampton enterprise in 1922 with Frank McDonald and was a well known lacrosse fan. Survived by wife, two children Bill and Pat, mother Mrs D Hughey, and sisters. Funeral held at McClure Funeral Home with interment in Brampton Cemetery.
