A Georgetown boy was fined 5.00 and costs by Magistrate Woodliffe for petty trespass after evading guards and climbing a plant fence. The judge warned him sternly and noted the Wartime Act could bring harsher penalties if the serious charge had been laid.

May weather boosts crops after heavy rain

Road Superintendent Dies on First Day in Office
Mr. Pred Hamilton of Rockwood, recently appointed Road Superintendent of No. 7 Highway, collapsed and died last Monday afternoon while supervising workers on the highway between Acton and Georgetown. He was 57 or 58 and had just begun his new post after a recent illness.

Pte Howard Conn Reported Missing in Action
A Toronto butcher shop employee before enlisting in 1939, Pte Howard Conn aged 25 son of Mr and Mrs William Conn is reported missing in action in Daly while serving with the Tank Corps in the Governor General's Horse Guards. He married last March and his wife lives in Deptford London England. He sails overseas since 1941 and served in North Africa and Italy with brothers Lloyd and an Ordnance Corps relation among his close kin. He leaves his wife parents and four sisters Marie Betty Gwen and Leona.

Life saved after No. 7 Highway overturned car
On No. 7 Highway three miles east of Acton a car overturned and pinned Mrs. John Schaeffer of Toronto. Mr. J. D. Williamson and Mr. George Graham freed her as she stopped breathing. John Schaeffer and son John 12 and soldier Le. Cpl. J. W. Arthur were uninjured, traffic officer Ray Mason investigated. D-Day Prayer Service At United Church
A large congregation joined a D-Day prayers service at United Church at 8 pm. The worship included hymns from My Soul with Expection Doth to God Save the King, readings from Luke and Psalm 46, and prayers for Allied forces. Military Funeral Held for Thomas G Bartlett in Milton

Chinese Laundryman Wong Soon Found Dead in Bed
Wong Soon proprietor of Georgetown Chinese Laundry for 15 years died in bed on Sunday. He lived alone and neighbors discovered the body at 7:15 p m after not seen for days. He was about 60 and left three sons, one in Godrich. The body was sent to Toronto for burial.
