Last week the Herald Victims’ Fund increased by $100 with a large donation from the Glen Community Club today. At a party for Fred Warnes on May 28 guests gave money instead of presents, and Fred turned over $2 to the fund at the Reeves.

Smith & Stone Dance for Soldiers Fund at Huttonville
Smith & Stone employees held a benefit dance at Huttonville Park on May 30 to aid the Soldiers' Fund. Norm Wilkinson and his Hamilton orchestra provided music. Mr. B. Stone and Mrs. W. Smith generated donations, totaling 75 dollars for service members in active duty.

Meeting of the Countess of Strathmore Chapter at Cedar Crest
The Countess of Strathmore Chapter 1.C.D.E. met at Cedar Crest Club on June 2 with 27 members. After dinner the regent ordered the meeting, minutes were read, the treasurer reported, and War Work coordinator Mrs. O. V. Willems spoke on the fund. Plans were made for a 100 lb sugar drive for the war fund, with a drawing slated for late June, and regular meetings to continue through summer.

Two More Break-ins In Town
Two break-ins occurred in town over the past week. At MacKenzie's Service Station on Guelph Street thieves forced entry and stole cigarettes and spark plugs worth about $65. Early Monday morning Hughey and MacDonald Tobacco and Pool Parlour was entered with cigarettes tobacco and a small radio taken. loss about $130. Chief Marshall is investigating.

The Georgetown Bowling Club opened with a mixed jitney and bridge night to aid the Herald War Victims Fund. About 36 attendees enjoyed bowling, with top scores from Mrs. W. G. Bell and a men’s tie among Fred Thompson, W. G. Bell, and S. P. Chapman. Luena Campbell and Mrs. J. W. Kennedy won bridge. prizes were War Savings Stamps. A 5 quart oil donation from A. R. Speight went to W. G. McDowell in a draw. Coffee and doughnuts sold for 10c to boost profits, totaling $13.30 for the Herald Fund.

Boy Hurt When Friend Backed Car Hits Heir To Family Service
Paul MacKenzie three years old, son of Mr and Mrs Bruce MacKenzie, was struck by a car driven by his uncle Bob MacKenzie as he darted behind the vehicle at a family service station. After a May 30 pre Communion service Knox Presbyterian Church held a farewell gathering in the Church School room for Rev. and Mrs. Davidson who are leaving for a new field of labor. The event featured a church lunch, community singing, and a purse presentation by Clerk of Session Alex D. Hume with best wishes for their harvest in the new ministry. Mr. Davidson praised the response and recalled strong ties to Georgetown as attendees sang Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem.
