Pioneer Georgetown Man Celebrates 83rd Birthday
Hiram Kennedy of Georgetown district marked his 83rd birthday at his town home last Saturday July 6. A lifelong resident born near Erin on the 5 Line he hails from Halton County’s pioneer Kennedy family. A marble cutter by trade he worked in Georgetown and Guelph before machines largely replaced handwork with granite. The Kennedy family holds an annual reunion though recent years have left him unsure where this year’s gathering will be held.

Six Georgetown boys funded a Red Cross drive during summer vacation by selling red white and blue lemonade at a mill booth. J W McNutt founder of Brampton Bakery died in Brampton on June 27 after a long illness. Born in Essex County he spent twenty years with Maple Leaf Milling Co in Toronto before buying the Brampton Bakery in 1922. He was seventy. His wife Annie Manes Stuart survives.

Mrs. Gilbert Gillevet learned her husband Pat has safely landed in England to serve with the C.A.S.F. in the last war veteran's hometown reunion. He, known as Pat, once served thirteen years with the British army and soon met local friend Tom Givens while touring the neighborhood with a Grace boy serving breakfast to troops.
