Halton Plowmen's Association records strong year of activity
Halton Plowmen's Association held its annual meeting at the Farmer's Building Milton praising a financially strong year. The group, with Halton Junior Farmers, sponsored a Junior Match and coaching demonstration and supported a county tractor team and a premier County Match and Farm Machinery display in 1948. Officers and directors were elected for 1949 with J A Elliott as honorary president and J E Whitelock as secretary treasurer.

Halton Conservation Committee Organized
The Agricultural and Reforestation Committee of Halton County Council and local groups have focused on conserving Halton wood lots soil and water. A by law to subsidize fence costs for woodlot protection was paused by council and a public meeting in Milton featured W H Porter of London. The committee plans a pamphlet detailing conservation bylaws and aims to boost rural school participation in reforestation efforts and water conservation projects.

Death of Mrs William Hitchcock longtime district resident
Mrs William Hitchcock former Harriet Sharpe dies at 78 after living in the district most of her life. She passed away Saturday December 7 at her daughter Mrs John Harding in Erin Township. Survived by husband five children eighteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren three sisters and three brothers. Funeral held Tuesday at the home of daughter Mrs Henry Preston with six grandsons as pallbearers. Interment Greenwood Cemetery Georgetown.

Theft Charge Against Local Store Manager
Provincial Constable Ray Schisler escorted a local store manager back to Saint John New Brunswick on Sunday after arrest in Georgetown on December 17. Police say the man stole a large sum from his employer and left town the previous weekend. Quick action by Provincials on information of an eastern head led to the apprehension.

Berwick council wraps year with by law tweaks and retirements
The council completed its 34th meeting of the year and amended the parking by law to bar parking in laneways and driveways.
