A long list of Christmas visitors and holiday guests travel to town from Toronto Hamilton Brampton Guelph Stratford Oakville Ottawa and New York area. Families host relatives and friends at Christmas week end with dinners and gatherings across numerous households.
At the annual nomination meeting in Stewarttown Esquesing Township filled all offices by acclamation. Reeve George Currie was acclaimed and deputy reeve George Leslie will serve next year. Council members Wilfrid Bird Walter Linham Craig Reid and trustees Hector Bird R L Davidson were elected or acclaimed. Reeve Currie pledged road and tree by law support and noted high expenditures on the township hall and snow removal impacted gravelling.
Mrs William H Everson a Glen Williams resident for 38 years died at home on December 22. Born in Lancashire England she was 75 and active in St Albans Church of England. Survived by husband two sons in Toronto and one grandson Archdeacon W G O Thoms with funeral at home and burial in Glen Williams Cemetery.
The Union Presbyterian Church Sunday School held its annual Christmas party last Wednesday with a supper for children and parents. Wilfrid Leslie presented two movies and the concert included carols playlets and recitations by Tommy Lee Leslie Keith Leslie Hugh Hunter and others. Santa visited giving gifts while F L Thomson supervised and Rev J Li Self chaired the event.
On December 22 the S S concert in Ash Grove featured a Young People Christmas musical with trios duets and solos followed by a story read by Clayton Dick Jr. The children performed recitations and songs as prizes were awarded to Sunday School workers. Barbara Cunningham was named the star pupil for last year. Ice cream was served. Mrs Malcolm McNabb broke her left wrist two days before Christmas and friends wish her a speedy recovery.
Thirty five members of the Check Line Farm Forum gathered December 2 at Mr and Mrs L DeVries for a Christmas party. The evening featured carols piano solos by Julia DeVries a recitation by BI and a dust sung by Denny Charles and Joe Rees. Santa distributed gifts and supper followed.
George McMenemy aged in his seventh year died Christmas Day at his daughter Mrs J P Kirkwood’s Ballinafad home after two shots of Alness. Born in Gerafraxa Township to James McMenemy and Mary Ann Steen he farmed in Esquesing then Manitoba before returning to Esquesing in 1922. He leaves three children Mrs J P Kirkwood Ballinafad Mrs Gear Sinclair Milton and Bert Glen Williams and three brothers Joseph Glen Williams David Paliafad and Henry Brampton. Rev O R Flindall conducted the funeral from the Kirkwood home with interment in Glen Williams Cemetery. Pallbearers were William Wright Richard Shortill Norman Sinclair James McKechnie Alex McKay and Thomas Nill.
Lloyd Merry writes of a school party marked by cap pistols and odd gifts, with most presents cigars and tobacco products, a tall improvised tree, and no Santa. The column closes with condolences to Mr. Lambert on his father’s death as students begin holidays.
