A light vote on Monday returned the 1950 town council to office for another term. Frank Petch led with 597 votes, followed by Herald foreman Eldery with 867, Norman Hill and Harry Hale tied at 522, Thos L Lyons 506, and William Tuck 486. Fred McNally failed to win with 457. Mayors and other offices filled by acclamation. recreation region grant passed 516 to 267. About 840 ballots cast versus 1500 in 1949.

Dufferin County Clerk Lt Col Preston Dies in Orangeville
Lt Col John A V Preston longtime Dufferin County clerk and surrogate court registrar died at his Orangeville home in his 87th year. A former Grand Valley lawyer, he served in the Northwest Rebellion and World War I. He was a past district deputy grand master of the Masonic Order and a key Anglican churchman on Niagara synod finance. His son Allan, married to Eleanor Beaumont of Glenn’s, attended the funeral at St Mark's Church where W G O Thompson represented the Bishop.

Robert Cain died in an accident at Sykes Quarry when a derrick boom struck him as a heavy stone wagon was moved. He was 81, a former RCMP officer, and foreman at the quarry for ten years. Survived by wife Mabel and six children. Funeral at McClure Funeral Home with Archdeacon W.G.O. Thompson officiating and Legion members attending. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery Georgetown.
