Georgetown Acton and Milton high school teachers urged a $300 yearly raise for all salaries and a $1000 total increment. The request came at a January meeting led by Milton spokesman R C Roos. The group also requested higher minimums and maximums, plus more facilities at Georgetown and Milton.
Scott Motors and Georgetown Transportation held their annual Christmas party at Paradise Gardens in Guelph on Saturday with a dinner and dance. Attendees included Keith Cartlidge Merle Priers Fred Lawrence Dorothy Lane Jack Hamilton Ivan Huffman Glen Zicott Douglas Woods Joseph Ambroise Wm McDonald Sr Ray Pinkney Godfrey Collier Mervyn Kir Vernon Kirby Mrs Wm Herington Jus Thompson Don May Arthur Scott and others.
The wedding of Robin King and his bride will take place at the bride's home on Saturday. Attendees include sister Nettie Wilson in grey faille with red and white roses. Walter Robin of Campbellville stands as a groomsman. After a supper in Burlington at the Estaminet, the couple departs for a honeymoon in St Catharines and will reside in Georgetown.
The WMS annual meeting at Mrs Roughley home reelected officers including President Mrs H Norton and 1st Vice Pres Mrs J Roughley. Other posts filled by Mrs Smethurst Mrs A Benton and Mrs A Patterson with committees and readings noted. WMS hostess served refreshments and wishes for a merry Christmas are extended to Georgetown Herald readers.
Esquesing council accepted the Hamilton Brothers snow plowing tender for December 15 to March 15 pending Highway Dept approval. Other items include payments on sheep and lamb loss claims, by law preparations for fire area, ward changes, election date set for January 1, and council honor for Reeve Currie.
The W A held its annual meeting at Miss Ivens home on Tuesday evening. Officers were reelected: President Inez Srott Vice President Nellie Norton Secretary Treasurer Eva Patterson. Music by Orvil Shee and the Melodaires. Several members and guests attended including Mr and Mrs A W Norton and Mr and Mrs Ron Latimer.
Arthur J. Wright, 70, of Brampton, died at Sunnybrook Hospital after a lingering illness. Born in England he came to Canada in 1923, served in France with the Imperials in the First War, and moved to Brampton twenty years ago. Survived by wife and six children including Catherine in England Isaac and Vera Brampton Mrs Norman Reekie Salty Clarke bury Mrs Fred Laughin Joan Collingwood and Dennis Georgetown. Interment in Brampton Cemetery after funeral Friday.
Norval Public School presented its annual Christmas concert led by Principal William Ritchie and Mrs. T Cascadden at St Pauls Parish Hall last Thursday. The program featured drills solos choruses and skits with Santa Claus distributing gifts afterward and Mr R H Hunter delivering a brief address of congratulations.
The council on Friday December 15 reappointed Brother J B Milne to a two year term on the North Halton High School District Board. The meeting approved a five dollar Christmas bonus for town employees.
Reeve Currie and George Curro entertained Esquesing Council members and township officials at a Friday dinner.
Announcement records the retirement of Dr A McAllister as district medical officer for the Canadian National railway. He served since 1921 from Milton to Limehouse and Norval to Tottenham, with Dr C V Williams to succeed him. The piece notes changes in railway medical practice and transportation needs.
Mrs William Ballingall a Scottish native formerly Mary Rodger died at her Hamilton home on Saturday aged 73. She and her husband William Ballingall moved to Canada in 1926 and lived in Georgetown before relocating to Hamilton. Survived by her husband seven children James Mudie John Mudie George Mudie Jane Elizabeth Mudie William Ballingall and Mary Ballingall a US-based brother and a Georgetown sister-in-law. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery.
The Knox Church Sunday School held a Christmas Tree event in the Sunday School Rooms on Friday. The Women’s Association hosted an hour of games and carols. At eight o’clock a programme of recitations songs and dialogues entertained a large gathering of parents and friends. Presents and candy were distributed to the children.
Alliance Paper Mills staff from Georgetown Don Valley and Toronto joined the Merritton office Christmas gathering at St. Catharines Golf Club. Company president A. E. H. Fair and the secretary participated with several colleagues on Friday night.
The Hockey Raiders extended their winning streak to five with a 10-1 victory over Burlington last Friday. Leigh Bradbury returned from a jaw injury, Rene Martin dressed but unused, and Blackie Graham opened with a highlight goal from a pass by Junior Beaumont. Chappel led with three goals, Kemshead added two, with Ferri Nash Townsley and Del Beaumont contributing. The Raiders travel to Milton Thursday and host Oakville next Wednesday.
At a Presbyterian Church WMS meeting held last week officers were elected for the coming year. Named were Hon. President Mrs Geo Iamond, Past President Mrs Craig McClure, President Mrs Malcolm McNabb, 1st Vice Mrs Percy Leelle, 2nd Vice Mrs Frank Fendley, Secretary Mr J W McClure, Assistant Secretary Mrs Tom McGee, Treasurer Mrs Hyatt McClure, Pianist Mrs Oliver Hunter, Assistant Pianist Miss Elizabeth Reed, and Glad Tidings Chair Mrs Nels Robinson with committee members Mrs Elmer Patteea and Mrs Brown.
