Township meeting crowd wearing red badges pressed the council on the proposed drag strip on Don Matthews farm north of Highway 7. Lawyers clashed over by law applicability and building permits while residents demanded clarity and feared the project as a risky, disruptive change.
Despite snow a group of 107 marched from Georgetown Market to Moore Park Plaza on the National Day of Mourning for Biafra. Participants, including students and clergy, carried placards such as Hunger Hurts and It's Our Baby Too and planned canal relief fundraisers with petition letters to MPs.
Ab Williams arrived home shortly before 11 on Wednesday November 19 and found a masked armed man in shadows near the front door. Williams kicked the door, the intruder fled without injury or arrest.
Santa arrives Saturday leading Lions Club parade route with 48 floats. Helpers in white and red outfits will hand out candies to children eight and under along Armstrong Avenue to Main Street. Judges Armstrong Barrager and Mayor Emmerson will observe near the post office as the parade proceeds downtown starting at 1 30 p.m.
Darcy McKeough Ontario's Minister of Municipal Affairs told Rotarians in Milton that Halton will not become a separate county. He reiterated support for a Halton Peel region, with or without Burlington, and rejected Plunkett's urban rural split. He warned Toronto could redraw the area if Halton-Peel governance is avoided. The Ontario legislature will hear a private bill to disband Georgetown's Board of Parks Management which has run the arena since the forties. If not, a vote of electors may be required to end the board, with a plan to replace it by next year with a single council over all town recreation. Dr Ern Hyde opposed the proposal in Monday's council vote.

Esquesing councillor Ken Marshall failed to win Milton deputy reeve as Percy Barr gained 1 070 votes to 720. Milton voters also re elected Mayor Brian Best. Ron Harris became reeve. Syd Childs led the six council seats along with Fay Melanson Krantz Johnson and Woods. A liquor referendum passed by four to one and a cocktail lounge measure cleared by just over three to one.
A new parent school organization formed at Park Public School aims to improve communications between parents and the school. An executive led by Ron Dodokin with J Macdonald as vice president and J Thbitt as secretary treasurer was elected, with a nine person program committee named.
Georgetown council accepted a Stevenson & Kellogg report proposing a chief administrative officer and multiple senior staff upgrades, including town engineer and welfare director, with a shift toward larger staff and a stronger executive role. Debates highlighted costs, conformity fears, and long term regional governance implications as the plan passed 7 to 1.
Georgetown police logged 272 charges in October with 163 under the Highway Traffic Act, mostly speeding. The month saw 84 sun monies, 28 arrests across Criminal Code and Liquor Act, 5 break‑ins, 6 thefts above and below $50, 18 miscellaneous incidents, 6 missing person probes, and 23 auto accidents including one fatal.
