Tom Warnes caretaker of the Public School keeps a night blooming cereus in a schoolroom. The plant has bloomed three times in the past year with four flowers on a recent Monday night. The blooms appear at night and wither by morning, having an orchid like flower and strong perfume.

Fire Extinguished at Hydro Pole in City Center

A noon hour fire call at Main and Guelph in front of Lorne Paters residence found a hydro pole smoldering at the base. The fire brigade extinguished the flames with a hand extinguisher and reported no damage.

Rural Pupils Need Permit to Attend Georgetown High School

The North Halton High School Board controls attendance for Esquesing Township while Georgetown High School Board has no authority. The Education Department says students may attend outside their district if a suitable course is unavailable locally or if another school is more accessible.
